IBM’s PowerPC 970 (G5) has Apple back in the race

“The G5 could not have come at a better time. It was first announced by IBM in October 2002, as a new Altivec-enabled desktop 64-bit processor called the PowerPC 970.

  1. “way ahead of the pack?” please.

You can come up with benchmarks that ‘prove’ the G5’s superiority at

or any other site you have bookmarked to regurgitate when the speed arguement comes up.

You can come up with benchmarks that ‘prove’ that intel is ahead of the g5 in over 80% of tests here

Also, as Rob (an avid mac user) points out, the Apple camp had a major upgrade this year, but in the world of Intel/AMD, you didn’t have that many technological improvements. Some might point out AMD’s 64 bit chips, but others would be quick to point out that the chips 64 bit extensions (unlike apple’s) aren’t even supported in any real progam, save a few linux apps.

So, back in the race, sure. Ahead of the pack? Only in the operating system.

It’s ironic that if IBM was never screwed by Micro$oft (who haven’t they screwed, consumers included), there would be no G5.

And, 64bit in theory does equqal 18 exabytes of addressable information, but the actual parts are limited by thier design. You can argue theory all you want, but if you can please point me to the website selling 2 exabyte memory sticks, you get a gold star!

  2. Badly need your help. On the plus side, death is one of the few things that can be done just as easily lying down.
I am from Ethiopia and learning to read in English, tell me right I wrote the following sentence: “Search for drug and alcohol treatment centers worldwide.Focus healthcare of tennessee is a jcaho accredited drug and alcohol treatment center in chattanooga, tennessee.”

    8) Thanks in advance. Monica.
