Rush Limbaugh comments on Gored Apple

“Folks, I was minding my own business Wednesday afternoon, not bothering anybody, and all of a sudden I got this alert flashing in my e-mail. I see that former vice president Algore, who invented the Internet and popularized the information superhighway, was elected to the Apple Computer board of directors,” writes Rush Limbaugh.

Limbaugh continues, “This was just devastating. We use Macs here at the EIB Network. We’re an entire Mac shop, and Algore, who probably wouldn’t know the Internet if he was on the computer, is now a member of the Apple board of directors.”

“I have to see if one bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Gosh, I hope not, and I hope he doesn’t have anything to do, other than ceremonial duties, with this outfit. If they start letting him reinvent Apple like he reinvented government, oh boy… I just ordered a couple of new G4 Power Mac towers, and this is the way I get paid back? Geez,” writes Limbaugh.

  1. Rush – who, as we know is a Mac user – publicly praised Al “in all fairness” for his contribution to the internet (as we know it) shortly after Al interviewed with Wolf Blitzer.

Today he takes a cheap shot.

    Why am I NOT surprised?

  2. We need a recount of the Apple Board of directors. The florida board members votes were tabulated on a Wintel box. RECOUNT! Having AL on the board means we can no longer make fun of Ballmer at Microsoft, no matter how much crazed dancing ensues! Steve Jobs Rules, but sounds like that acid in the 70’s is finally affecting his judgement!

  3. I’d much rather see an intelligent and technologically savy man like Al Gore on the Apple-board than a nonsense-babbling fly-weight such as Rush. Welcome aboard, Mr Gore!!

  4. Mike, it’s technologically “savvy” rather than “savy”. Your comment implies that Republicans, like Limbaugh, are idiots and Democrats, like Gore, are brilliant. When I owned a software company, I had brilliant Democrats and Republicans as employees. Limbaugh and Gore are both very successful. Limbaugh did it without a wealthy family to back him. Limbaugh’s success is proof he isn’t an idiot and your statement proves you simply don’t like his politics and consequently you want to call him an idiot. Your statement reflects more on your judgment and dislike of conservative Republicans.

I love my Macintosh. Rush Limbaugh obviously thinks Macintoshes are the best too. Al Gore doesn’t have any business or computer experience. If I were in a position to pick someone for the board, I wouldn’t pick someone without a background in either business or computer technology.

But, the Apple board can do as they wish and in the end, Al Gore will most likely have little effect on Apple’s direction or the next great Apple product.

  5. Will ALGORE (ditto heads take note) make a difference in the product line at Apple? Not very likely. Should someone who ignites such divison among the very kind of people Apple should be reaching out to in it’s marketing be appointed to the BoD? No. I guess this shows that even Steve Jobs can’t be a genius all the time. I wish ALGORE would do us all a favor and fade into the history books. I’m sure he could get on the board of some nice liberal outfit like Handgun Control, NARAL, PETA, PFTAW,ACLU,NEA,or CNN (the Clinton News Network).

  6. “What are you, French?”

Well now, there’s a lovely little comment aptly displaying ignorance and intolerance of all things non-mainstream or non-American opinions. You folks claim to appreciate “freedom”… freedom of expression, freedom of opinion, freedom of choice et cetera. But wait! Someone or some country doesn’t agree with me/us. They MUST be bad. They’re un-American. Let’s bad-mouth them at every turn.

I guess you’ve forgotten that it took more than TWO YEARS before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone KNEW he had weapons.

Not all people have such an appetite for war as many Americans do. Perhaps when you slag the French, or anyone else for that matter, you might like to check the facts first and try to understand their history and motivation. As a primer, you may note that more French died in a two-week period during World War I than ALL American military casualties, in ALL military actions in the ENTIRE 20th century. Statistics like that tend to change opinions about the glory or efficacy of war.

  7. Perhaps, if Al has any real influence with persons in the government, he
may contribute some positive influence toward the USA broadening their
use and application of our favorite platform.
    Would that be all bad???

  8. You know what is strange about the self-styled liberals on this and other sites, they are for free speech & opinion as long as it is in alignment with what they hold to be true. For “get a dell” I have been using Macs sine the FIRST model, probably before you were old enough to know what a computer is.
There are no greater practitioners of INTOLERANCE than on the LEFT. Go to any University, and you will see that diversity does not include Christians, Republicans, Conservatives, etc. You can advocate any wild-eyed, off-beat, revisionist nonsense, just as long as you are not one of those listed above.
Finally, Apple is a publicly traded company dealing in the commerial marketplace, not some hippie collective for would-be liberals. I’ll buy what I damn well please, and ALGORE is still a rotten choice for the BoD.

  9. “Rush???

Please… this guy is so alien from the core mac demographic..”

Is he? I am a conservative mac user and developer. Most of my friends are conservative … many are also mac users. Apple has designed wonderful products for years. They have combined the “artsy” side with logical and effiecent design.

This sounds like the best of both worlds. I must confess a certian desire to sell my Apple stock as a result of the former VP’s joining the company. Not because he is so liberal … Apple has always been full of liberals. But in seeing Mr. Gore lie so easily and often, how can I trust him in business … of course I’d rather have him at Apple than in his first career choice.

The Apple demegraphic is anyone who values good design of low price. Anyone who sees the power of Unix combined with the elegance of design that has always been seen in Apple products. Politics aside they are just better systems.

  10. I guess you’ve forgotten that it took more than TWO YEARS before you guys pitched in against Hitler, but that was different. Everyone KNEW he had weapons.

It’s the Monroe doctrine. You’ll notice that no wars scar the face of the western hemisphere anymore. The Americans and Canadians will not tolerate. It’s called the Monroe Doctrine. There will be no such fighting here. Oh sure, all manner of pseudowar goes on in Central and South America, but it’s only in Europe and the Middle East that the modern era has seen such devestation. Perhaps its the homogeny of culture in the West that keeps everybody in line. America would have been content to let Hitler march straight to Baghdad. Hitler was, in the minds of the American congress, far better than Stalin. If he managed to dismantle a communist nation like the USSR, good for him. Europe’s woes were not America’s woes. But America did show up, and spilled the blood of thousands of citizens to give France back her freedom. That took place 50 years ago and has no bearing on postmodern politics.

Not all people have such an appetite for war as many Americans do.

Yeah most nations lack the gumption for war and just go straight to human rights atrocities.

Perhaps when you slag the French, or anyone else for that matter, you might like to check the facts first and try to understand their history and motivation.

France’s motivation is that they’re in bed with Iraq. Despite Iraq’s copious oil reserves and resources, they’ve managed to accrue enormous debts, a good portion of which is held by France. If America replaces the Iraqi government, that debt is likely to be conveniently forgotten as not being accrued by the will of the governed. It’s happened before.

As a primer, you may note that more French died in a two-week period during World War I than ALL American military casualties, in ALL military actions in the ENTIRE 20th century. Statistics like that tend to change opinions about the glory or efficacy of war.

Maybe that’s because Americans fight better? Don’t know. If the Europeans could manage to quit having wars that involve half the planet, we wouldn’t have so many people dying.

  11. Damn, I read the Mac news to get away from politics. With that being said, Rush is not my favorite person and I totally understand Jobs not wanting him to be in ads endorsing the Apple product line. Speak about people being in the wrong place, Rush was on ESPN (of course he got kicked off for making one hell of a stupid comment). I’m sure Rush used to play football, so you don’t have to use that arguement. On the arguement that Gore has never been in business, hell, he used to help run one of the biggest businesses in the world…the American Government.
