Foxconn spy shot reveals surprising new iPhone 7 details

“With iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus (or iPhone 7 Pro?) production now reportedly underway, we’ve seen a number of leaks and rumors that have painted a fairly clear picture of what we can expect from this year’s new iPhone models,” Zach Epstein reports for BGR. “But it appears as though Apple still has a few surprises up its sleeve that the company is saving for its big iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus unveiling this coming September.”

“At least, Apple was saving some new features for September until they just leaked thanks to a spy shot that apparently leaked from Apple’s top iPhone manufacturing partner,” Epstein reports. “An image was posted on Chinese tech site MyDrivers.com on Monday that contains what the site claims to be a photograph taken of a slide from an internal presentation at Foxconn.”

“The photo in question was reportedly snapped during an internal meeting at Foxconn, though it is unclear exactly who was in attendance. The image was reposted by Twitter user ‘The Malignant,’ who regularly posts leaks that often end up panning out,’ Epstein reports. “There are a few iPhone 7 Plus specs listed on the slide. Among them are a 12-megapixel dual-camera setup, wireless charging support and an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. The last two notes there are the surprises…”

MacDailyNews Take: Based on rumors and what a few little birdies whisper us, iPhone 7 is sounding pretty substantial for a “boring” device.

    1. Agreed. Nothing is going to lift Apple or change anyone’s opinion about Tim Cook at this point. Apple appears down for the count. Apple is the only major tech company in a complete funk. Nothing but bad news at every turn.

Making a good, dependable product doesn’t seem to count for anything nowadays. I’m not even sure why any company would constantly need to change the design of something that works well. Imagine if Boeing had to change their aircraft design every year to get new passengers. Production would go all to hell. I really don’t get Wall Street’s philosophy at all.

  1. Winchester did not become a success with the 30-30 or Zippo by changing the design every year.

Why does everyone expect Apple to do so with the iPhone?

It is a tool for God’s sake.

    1. From what I understand, one of the major reasons for dual cameras is that one will be black and white only, because a monochrome sensor can capture a lot more detail than a color sensor, and the camera hardware and software then merge the two images, creating a single image with much better detail.

    2. My guess is that they’re of different focal lengths.

By digitally combing the images they can produce a range of images similar to those created with an optical zoom. These images would have much more detail than those created with the current digital zoom.

  2. If they do wireless charging at a distance then it will be a big deal, but if they just do a charging pad then it will be ho-hum. I wonder if they will also do wireless charging at a distance for the new MacBook Pro’s, iPads, etc.

Wireless charging at a distance means no unsightly power strips with tangled wires cluttering up the views. This tech also means I can eliminate having to calculate how much power will be needed when venturing out of the dwelling. It then means an end to waiting for the device to reach the desired percentage.

It means never having to bring chargers to many places, especially when friends and family have wireless charging. Who is going to visit a friend that doesn’t have wireless charging? Freakin hillbillies.

In vehicles it means leaving devices in pockets or purses, especially if the device’s data is synched wirelessly with the vehicle’s controls. There are countless possibilities, which will make life easier.
