Apple Watch health and fitness labs, inspired by Steve Jobs, still operating overtime

“You might have thought that the health & fitness labs Apple created to help develop the Apple Watch might have been closed once the product had launched,” ben Lovejoy reports for 9to5Mac, “but a piece in TIME reports that they are still operating 12 hours a day, six days a week.”

I was recently able to visit one of Apple’s labs dedicated to sports and health. For 12 hours a day, six days a week, Apple brings in Apple employees of every shape, condition and ethnicity to do various exercises and monitor them with the most sophisticated medical systems available. Apple has seven full-time nurses in the facility I visited, using medical monitoring equipment that can determine all types of heath related data points. — Tim Bajarin, TIME Magazine

Lovejoy reports, “Analyst Tim Bajarin says that unnamed Apple execs on the Watch team told him that Steve Jobs experience of the healthcare system was a key motivation behind the development of the Watch.”

  1. GPS is essential because it allows analysts to associate location and conditions and time of day with a person’s physical conditions.

Make it easy for the person to have these data automatically sent to their doctor or iCloud for recording, mapping and statistical analysis.

Assuming the battery can handle it, having GPS in either the watch or band is a no-brainer.

I’m looking forward to buying my first Apple Watch in September.

While I’m asking, APPLE, I’d also like for you to create micro/mini blades we can buy for adding to out new half box Mac Pro I’m sure you will be coming out with. I want to buy the basic box and then buy multiple micro blades I can slip in to the box to create a cluster for some simulations I’m running. Thank you for listening and adding my wish list items to your TO DO list. 🙂

    1. GPS in the watch without a phone in your pocket might result in every kid starting at age two wearing one so their parents always can track them. Make “find my toddler” app. Parents worry during preschool, babysitting, not to mention lost kids, etc.

  2. Oh, I get it! Apple is still determined to find a reason for the AppleWatch. That is, having invented it, Apple is desperate to find a way way to make this wrist bound device useful and practical. It seems a backassward attempt to justify AppleWatch.

    1. Sadly Joe, no – you do not get it.
Apple Watch already has a reason, and fulfills it very well.
I find my Apple Watch to be an incredible device, and use it all the time.
It most certainly has “a reason”.
