“Apple is flat-out denying a report it is working on software to make it easier for iPhone owners to transfer their data to an Android device,” Ina Fried reports for Re/code.
“Britain’s Telegraph newspaper reported that, amid pressure from European wireless providers, Apple was developing a tool to allow people to more easily move their contacts, photos and music over to an Android device,” Fried reports.
Fried reports, “‘There is no truth to this rumor,’ an Apple representative told Re/code. ‘We are entirely focused on switching users from Android to iPhone, and that is going great.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Again, as we wrote earlier, even if it existed, “no one of any consequence would use such a tool.”
For those Android settlers who’ve stumbled here via search engines or other means, Apple’s “Move to iOS” app is available via Google Play here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apple.movetoios

Apple has a tool to help Android users to move to an iPhone. If phone companies want a tool to for people to move from the iPhone to an Android phone then they should make one, not Apple.
…. and then the phone companies would insist that their apps are installed on iPhones such that they cannot be deleted, yeah right, not going to happen! This nonsense from the phone providers is exactly what Apple Inc. with the iPhone fought for on behalf of users back in 2007!!
There is a very small group of valid potential users of such an app: people whose iPhones are stolen, or dropped into a pool/lake/ocean/fire, or lost. Many such people can’t afford to buy another $650 device right away, and instead choose to wait until the end of the contract (or installment plan). Meanwhile, they get a cheapo Android and suffer through that until they can afford the iPhone. To those people Apple could at least provide some relief form their misery by making it easy to (temporarily) migrate data into the Google universe, until their next iPhone arrives…
You would be much better off with a trimphone and a pager. No hassles with spying/android malware etc.
I would say that such an App ought to be developed by Google and offered in Apple’s store.
Waiting for hell to freeze over….
Both ways!
You forgot to put “/s” at the end of your post Sparky. 🙂
Go buy a used iPhone 5 or 5s. Very low cost and when you can buy new again, keep the old iPhone for a backup.
Just in: “Apple has been looking for the ‘TOOL’ that has been trying to downgrade from Apple iPhone to Androids. The on-campus pharmacy has recently started carrying a soothing cream for this condition and should be applied to the affected area… although not in public.”
Yes, the previous story said phone companies successfully pressured Apple into writing software so Apple can loose customers and give Apple less bargaining power with the phone companies.
Who exactly believed this?
(trying real hard to hold in my laughter)
I believed it. It’s no less crazy than other things the EU does to Apple and others. I just found it odd that carriers actually believed a conversion tool would spark interests in other mobile devices.
The real headline here should read “Apple Actually Responds to a Rumor”
That’s the REAL story here. 🙂
Or to dig a bit deeper, I’d guess that there is a damage threshold that can result from stupid rumors. In this case, it was beneficial for Apple to point out that the rumor was wrong in order to avert damaging consequences. (I’ll skip imaging what those consequences could have been as it’s now pointless).
Indeed responding to rumours all the time would be banal and self destructive as then when they don’t it will be assumed to be true by analysts and idiots alike. (did I need to separate those two)
Kind of sad that we’re inclined to assume that ‘analysts’ are idiots. In science, an idiotic analysis or bizarro rumor mongering ruins a career.
I remember starting to studying computer security 2005-2007 and being in shock at the rarity of scientific quality within the community. My best illustration of the lunacy is the plethora of names from various security organizations for exactly the same malware as there was no respect for first discoverer. And so forth. You’d think the computer community would be a science based community. Nope!
Good. That’s the DUMBEST idea ever! 😛
I wonder if it would be sold on a BOGOF basis? I am all for it if Apple sells the software for $650.
… GOOD.
Go pester Google if you want an Android downgrade tool.
Don’t even need to read the article to know Apple would never do something so amazingly stupid.
Ian Fried still as confused as ever I see.
