Apple’s servers swamped as users rush to install iOS 9

“It’s not just you,” Tribune Media Wire reports. “Most iPhone and iPad users attempting to update to iOS 9 are seeing an error message on the first day the new operating system is available to the public. After attempting the update on the device, users are seeing, ‘Software Update Failed: An error occurred while downloading iOS 9.'”

“Users seeing the error message said they were able to successfully update their operating system by plugging the device into a computer and using iTunes to perform the download and update,” Tribune Media Wire reports. “This appears to be the only workaround at this time.”

MacDailyNews Note: That doesn’t always work, either, as users report messages that their iOS devices have been “disconnected” from iTunes and to reconnect them.

Tribune Media Wire reports, “Apple has not commented on the error message, however it’s probably safe to assume demand for the new operating system overwhelmed Apple’s servers.”

MacDailyNews Take: Par for the course. Things should improve later today. Good luck!

  1. Plug your iOS device to your Mac, cue the update, eject your device and let the Mac handle it. OTA updates can be quite flaky.
Then let it install over the wire- it is faster less like to FUBAR your device and otherwise be less buggy.
