To Update, launch the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.
In My Watch > General, go to Software Update.
Make sure your Apple Watch is:
• In range of your iPhone
• Connected to its charger (as it also must be when transferring music)
• Charged at least 50%
Tap Download and Install.
How do you get and apply the update? I’m not seeing anything on the watch or on the phone.
Duh…… Via the Watch App of course. Sorry!
Via the Apple iPhone Watch app on the phone……..
saying 7 hours remaining…..WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Update just finished for me.
Bill, the update won’t work on your android watch.
Update completed in about an :45 minute time frame…..initial 7 hours may have been due to server issues……
Done, no bad effects….
You HAVE to be connected to your charger even if you have a 100% battery.
Maybe this is to prevent people from updating it while wearing it, for some reason.
What mike241243 said. I can also see people walking away from the phone right in the middle of the update process… Which might result in a bricked watch. (I’m not gonna try that.)
My Watch arrived 20 minutes before the update popped up.
Perfect timing!
enjoy!!!
REMEMBER – You can use Apple Pay without your iPhone with you!!! just so you know – it’s the best part!
Lucky guy!
Needing to be connected to its charger is a bogus requirement of the watch is more than 50% charged😁👎🏻
Seems like non-native apps are more responsive. Wunderground weather loads much quicker. Tried several others and looks as though I may actually use a few I earlier found far too slow to trump pulling out the phone. A few more hours of play to be definitive.
Siri is screaming fast with the update. What’s more? 16 text messages and Siri hasn’t missed one word!
Impressive! Siri has been great for me even before update…
My new Watch just “froze” up. The screen wouldn’t come up all the way and it was a blurred ghostly white.
I tried pressing things to get it to respond.
I was googling how to force reboot and it reboot on it’s own.
No biggie, Ver 1, OS 1.01.
FYI
“If you can’t turn off Apple Watch or if the problem continues, you may need to force Apple Watch to restart. Do this only if you’re unable to restart your Apple Watch.
Force Apple Watch to restart. Hold down the side button and the Digital Crown at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.”
From the Apple Watch User’s Guide.

You’re welcome.
But be careful about doing this, especially when updating the Watch OS as the process goes through several steps and takes awhile. Give it time to download, transfer, install, and reboot on its own.
Strange. Even with an 80% charge, I still had to connect with the charger. Otherwise, the installation remained in pause mode.
It doesn’t mean ‘or’. It means ‘and’. Charger, over 50%, in range (duh).
As per my post @ a further article about same:
– 8 Watch OS Kernel security patches, some critical. TY!
– A patch for the good old FREAK/Logjam HTTPS decrepit-encryption-algorithm security attack. Apple previously patched it for everything else under the sun.
