Apple Watch expected to boost to stupidwatch sales

“Like most of Apple’s product launches, the imminent arrival of the Apple Watch has brought an avalanche of hype, and a ton of fawning reviews,” Evelyn Cheng reports for Reuters.

“An unintended consequence, though, is the attention it gives to competitors’ wearables launching around the same time–some of which are much cheaper,” Cheng reports. “‘Apple (has) left room for the competition with their fairly high price,”‘ Nick Spencer, senior practice director at ABI Research, said. ‘I think this enables the consumer scenario of, Apple has launched a smartwatch, therefore I need one, but don’t want to pay $349, so I’ll buy a (cheaper) Android watch instead.'”

MacDailyNews Take: “…because I’m a foolish ignoramus who’ll settle for any random POS in order to delude myself that I’ve saved a buck.”

Cheng reports, “So far, slightly higher-priced smartwatches by Samsung, LG and Motorola have failed to gain much traction with consumers.”

MacDailyNews Take: This is because, to use official industry parlance, they suck donkey schlong.

Cheng reports, “So far, the market has not yet been fully satisfied by the available smartwatches.”

MacDailyNews Take: See previous Take.

Cheng reports, “‘In terms of functionality, none of the competition has quite got it right yet, partly because the developer community has been standoffish. Again, Apple has the ability to generate activity here too, helping the competition,’ ABI’s Spencer said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Wearers of pretend Apple Watches are destined to be at least as pitiful as those who settle for pretend Macs, pretend iPhones, and/or pretend iPads.

  1. Those in the market for a cheaper version of anything spend more money over time then those of us who shop for quality and get what we want without having to ‘make do’. I look at my computer spending compared to my frugal sister-in-law and she spends way more money to save a few bucks. Eventually, some people see the error of their ways and buy quality.

    1. I think a bigger issue with cheaper is that the type of people who consider price the reason for buying something, aren’t interested in what it does or can do for you, but rather just what it is – a gadget. These people are far less likely to invest any more money after the purchase, so the experience of the “gadget” is never truly realized.

That’s why all of Apple’s competitors regurgitate product features instead of trying to demonstrate what You are capable of doing with this device. This is what sets Apple apart from the rest of the industry.

  2. I see the Android down voting troll doofus squad is out in full force again today. Really, we WANT you to buy inferior Android offerings! Thereby delighting us by adding to your suffering and misery by virtue of your sheer platform choice stupidity.

Go ahead, do it! You can buy a craptastic, pointless & ill-thought out Android Watch today! Why wait any longer??

    1. I think we know who it is. My son figured out how do do multiple votes with a little trick and is getting back at everyone who he thinks slighted him. I know, he is pathetic but he wants to impress his father; Steve Balmer.

No, I didn’t actually do ‘it’ with that man. It was a dirty toilet seat I sat on.

  3. Apple will be forced to remove any references to “donkey schlong” from Angela’s new WATCH training manual………..LOL

Kinda catchy, leaves nothing to doubt…..IMHO !!!

  4. I don’t see how $350 is too expensive for a watch if it’s useful for a couple of years. That like $15 a month. I know people who drink that much in beer in a week. A six-pack of beer is around $7 or so. I don’t know why all this furor over this average-priced product. Sure if you want to pay more, that’s up to you, but my goodness… This isn’t a Porsche or an Audi we’re talking about.

  5. This argument would be a heck of a lot more persuasive if the Apple Watch worked with other OSes and not just the iPhone. Of course owners of non-iPhones will seriously consider the cost/personal benefit more than an iPhone owner due to less ‘stickyness’ to iOS for them.

  6. An admitted trolling comment to a deservingly trolling title:

“Apple Watch expected to boost to stupidwatch sales”
Of course! The Apple Watch is guaranteed to sell like hotcakes!
