New MacBook Pro with 16GB RAM standard and faster CPUs coming Tuesday, source says

“Apple’s MacBook Pro lineup, in both the 13- and 15-inch varieties, is now rumored to receive an update on Tuesday, following a leak that suggested all 15-inch models will come standard with 16 gigabytes of RAM,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider.

“The new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display is said to be identified as model ‘J44a,’ according to French website MacG, which cited ‘confirmation’ from a reliable source,” Hughes reports. “The new 15-inch model is said to be identified as ‘”J45a.'”

“No other information on the new high-end MacBook Pro models was provided,” Hughes reports, “though alleged in-store signage from China leaked on Sunday claiming to show the new 15-inch models will see slight CPU speed increases and will come with 16-gigabytes of RAM in all models.”

    1. Just bought a few months ago. Oh well, we know updated models are always coming. Fact of tech life. But I did buy the top model. Speed differences I suspect will be negligible. One thing I wish Apple would start building in as an option is cellular data capability.

      1. Won’t you be able to hot spot with your iPhone in iOS8? Or does that still going to need cell provider permission? Can’t remember what was said about this.

  1. Lets hope they sneak in a few more goodies like
Max Ram config up to 32Gig
    Reduce SSD upgrade costs
and of course, at long last, give us the option to add a
4k, Thunderbolt II Apple Cinema Display!!!

  2. Well, this might be my time to jump on board and get one of these puppies. I’ve still got and use daily a 2010 13″ MBP. I put a 1TB Seagate Hybrid Drive in about a year ago and it runs Mavericks (will also run Yosemite) and all my Apps effortlessly.

However, after playing around in an Apple Store with a new model last week, it made me want to upgrade. I’ll sell this on eBay and use the money towards my new one.

    1. I did a similar upgrade to my 2010 13″ MBP. Added a 512 GB SSD and moved to 8GB DRAM.

After 4 years of use my battery capacity is down about 20 %.

I would like the Retina screen over the Air normal res screen plus the MBP is only about 1/2 pound heavier.

A 13″ Retina MBP with 16 GB and a 512 SSD would be nice.
