In the U.S., Apple last night debuted four new TV commercials for their hot-selling iPhone 5 on nationwide broadcast and cable networks.
The ads are entitled:
• “Thumb”
• “Cheese”
• “Physics”
• “Ears”
Introducing the iPhone 5, with 4-inch Retina display. It’s the perfect size for everything — including your thumb.

Introducing the iPhone 5. Now taking beautiful photos in panorama is as simple as saying “cheese.”
The iPhone 5 is here. The biggest and tallest yet somehow thinnest and lightest iPhone yet.
Introducing the iPhone 5, with EarPods — designed to sound better and earshaped to fit better.

MacDailyNews Take: Ahh, a return to the tried and true formula is exactly what the doctor ordered for Apple’s advertising.
I really like the cheeeeeeese commercial 🙂
It does raise the question of “How does the Panorama Mode do when the subject(s) are moving during the sweep of the exposure?”.
Tried panorama and two people who moved have portions of legs and arms missing. Looks like timing is everything however some may like the strange panoramas they get.
All excellent!
The lame ‘Genius’ ads have been incinerated and scattered in the wind.
I love the “Thumb” one – explains what we have been trying to explain to the BLNs of the world for so long now.
+infinitum. One of my many wishes: BLN, please STFU already.
I used to feel the same way. But BLN actually appears to be mellowing a bit. It is good to have a reasonable contrarian viewpoint in this forum, so I am giving him another chance.
Yeah, I’ve noticed his mellowing down as well; it does take some of the fun away from the forum though. Fortunately, we still have Pat, Edwards etc. to keep us entertained.
I think the Apple thought is much bigger than BLN. This is a direct jab at Shamsteal aka Samsung. And brilliant it is in it’s simplicity. May Tim Cook be ever more wary of poor advertising ideas and execution in the future we see from others we expect it from but not from Apple. Folks, I think Tim’s learning.
These are way better than their Mac genius ads.
Dudes voice is a little different than what I’ve come to expect from Apple but these are a big move forward from the last batch.
The voice is Jeff Daniels (from “Newsroom”).
These are more like the ads we are used to. Very well done.
By the end of the first commercial I was thinking “what a great voice” and I was wondering if it was indeed from Jeff Daniels (I still think Gettysburg was one of his best all time roles). He’s got a fantastic voice that integrates so well with the script and imagery. These ads are fantastic, as they should be.
Agreed. The ads are VERY well done. I think the “Thumb” ad really makes a good point.
Agree the voice is Jeff Daniels. Good choice Apple.
Much, much better than the Apple Genius ads.
They surely chose one without a Korean accent
Now those are Apple artistic style .
Nice especially the Thumbs video eh
I want a 5″ iPhone screen!
Gotta agree. Much better. Whimsically fun demonstrations of good design, form meeting function. Far better than those crap genius ads. And quite frankly, who gives a shit about what Samule L. Jackson or Martin Scorsese think about any technology? I admit, Zoe Deschanelle I will listen to indefinitely.
+1 on ZD
mutton dressed as lamb…
This one’s the best of the lot.
LOL now that *IS* funny… 😀
That was pretty damn funny!
lol, that’s great.
Gawd, I just pissed myself! Darn coffee.
Find one with Galaxy S3 750% wider. Bet it would be funnier!
Hilarious! Yeah I’d love to see that parody of the Samsung Boogie Board phone.
What’s scary is anyone with a good idea and an HD video DSLR can create a great ad. And the fans and websites do a pretty good job. Must make ad agencies nervous and crazy. The democratization of making commercials. Doritos annually asks fans to try and make a commercial for the Super Bowl with a million dollar prize for the winner. Apple should do this too, I’d love to see what the fans would come up with and might do one myself.
I actually love this. The innovative mock apps were really great: guitar, tape measure, lightsaber! Very well done! Thanks or sharing.
Awesome! Good share.
A return to understated elegance. Thanks Apple!
Simply amazing ads, reminds me of the good old days
love it. good job Apple
Apple you nailed it with Thumbs spot. Air this as much as possible.
that’s more like it, .
Sounded like the other Jeff to me — Goldblum. One of the original Apple ad voices. … But maybe it was Daniels.
The “Cheese” ad is sure better than a “cheesy” ad. RIP “Genius” ads. No, come to think of it, BIH (burn in hell).
Good to see a return to form, Apple.
I just watched the first one. The thumb commercial…
Brilliant. They need to do these things.. Too much saber rattling about the wrong subject. It’s about time Apple puts the topic back on track..
I have been reading about others now complaining that screens are too big. I hope this fad is over.
They are just getting better.. So cute… Cheese.
I can’t stop watching thumbs.
Just noticed… Isn’t the Ping Pong girl the actress from iCarly???
Look closely.
Well at least the Android people can buy a pair of Apple earbuds and plug them into their phone.
Or they can wait a couple of weeks for Samsung to copy them.
Apple’s iPhone commercials are brilliant.
I just don’t understand why they don’t make them like this for the Mac!!!
