“The trial version of iWork ’09, Apple’s productivity suite that includes Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, is no longer available on the company’s website for download,” Federico Viticci reports for MacStories.
“The company has replaced the former iWork trial webpage with a message informing customers that iWork is available on the Mac App Store,” Viticci reports. “On the Mac App Store, the iWork apps are available as standalone purchases priced at $19.99 each.”
Viticci reports, “Similarly, the company has removed the trial of Aperture 3 from its website, with users on Apple Support Communities noticing the change at least more than two weeks ago (recent Apple support documents still instruct users on how to remove the Aperture trial). Aperture is available on the Mac App Store at $79.99.”

iWork Apps are 19.99 each? What? Whoa there. That seems wrong…
I actually thought this pricing model was great. Better than spending $79.99 for the full suite on a physical disc. If they had offered this back when I purchased it, I would have only gotten Keynote and Pages. Numbers is useless for my needs, so I need Excel. I could have only bought the two of those for $40.

Keynote = King of presentations
Pages = fantastic word processor, also able to play nice with graphical elements for brochures and such
Numbers… Meh. The software is good for basic spreadsheets, but I really need something more powerful for engineering applications…

iWork Suite is waaaayyyy overdue for an update, especially in the areas of synching and Keynote improvements, such as QuickTime, expose-like view of individual panels, etc.
Yes. It’s time we got new iWork software with awesome features built in, especially iCloud integration like the iOS versions.
The significance of the change is that Apple is no longer trying to aggressively market iWork to new users by offering free trials. That is reminiscent of the way in which iWeb was gradually taken off life support. First you stop marketing it, then you stop updating it, then you stop supporting it, and finally it stops working on the current version of the operating system (e.g. AppleWorks). It does not bode well for those of us who regularly use iWork.
I agree. I bet anything that iWork will be gone within a year, 2 at most. Apple simply has no interest in updating iWork and it sorely needs that.

I see these two things (ending of the trial versions and the cessation of iWork.com beta) as being a feature jettison before an update is made to the product.
They probably haven’t included allowances for these things in iWork ’12 and so needed to be rid of them before a refresh.
Thats my hope anyhow.
I hope, instead, that they removed the public beta because they wanted to give it iCloud integration. I would be pretty mad if they got rid of it… I’m so glad I kept iWeb from my snow leopard install… 😛
Question…
I purchased a key code for iWork ’09 using the trial software download. Unfortunately, I have not saved a copy of the trial download install file, I just have my purchased key code. If the trial is no longer available, How would I install if I ever needed to reinstall as the app store does not recognize I own a licensed copy for redownloading?
