Apple sues Samsung over patented iPad Smart Cover, iPhone case designs

In Australia, Apple Inc. “claims the case for [Samsung Electronics Co.’s Galaxy 10.1 tablet] and cases for Samsung phones infringe its patents and registered design,” Joe Schneider reports for Bloomberg.

“Apple issued the notice of infringement to Samsung in Australia over the cases, and will file a statement of claim, Apple’s lawyer Stephen Burley said at a hearing in Sydney today,” Schneider reports. “Samsung’s lawyer Katrina Howard said at the same hearing the company was served with the notice that the cases infringe at least 10 patents.”

    1. That not all. Haven’t you seen this page comparing other aspects of the Samsung products?

(Actually, I think the microphone one is a bit of a stretch, but given the established pattern of copying, I guess you can throw that one in too.)

  1. This is fucking sickening. Samsung is determined to be no better than any other KIRF company at this point. I’ve got a Samsung TV that I bought in the early 2000’s, and now I don’t know how I can even keep the goddamn thing in my home. Anyone who buys ANY Samsung product now-a-days should be deeply ashamed and embarrassed. Because of Sammie’s ties with (ownership of?) the South Korean government, they are shaming their entire nation. I’m going to have to boycott ALL Korean products it looks like…

  2. Here is a dramatization of how Samsung continually swindles Apple out of their due goods.

The part of Apple will be played by the veteran actor of stage and movie Sir Doug McCallie as ‘Chester’.

The thieving dopeheaded rocker Samsung will be played by Community College flunky Eric Ellwood.

Samsung should NEVER mess with fire….

      1. Really? In this entire world, there is actually someone who this doesn’t entertain? Hard to believe!
But I wonder, why would they click the link?

Maybe so they could reply in a snobbish, elitist tone?
umm… not everyone is entertained by elitist snobbery.

  3. You would have loved the Samsung add that aired on tv before the lawsuits started. It looked exactly (and I mean exactly) like an iPad advertisement (look, style, and feel) until the end where SAMSUNG appeared in black letters on a white background. I was so stunned that I didn’t really believe what I saw until I watched it a number of times.

  4. You can patent a case? If this kind of patent nonsense around when cars were first being produced, Ford would have got a patent on the steering wheel and then there would have been no other cars except Fords.

    1. A case, they patented THE case. Which is the case Samsung copied. Apple isn’t saying “Samsung can’t make and sell cases”, but “Samsung can’t make and sell cases that are just like the ones WE PATENTED”. Besides … if Apple doesn’t “defend” its patent, they lose it.
