U.S. Congress Democrat Markey calls for FTC investigation of Carrier IQ software

Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), co-Chairman of the Bi-Partisan Congressional Privacy Caucus, on Friday asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to investigate the practices of software company Carrier IQ.

Rep. Markey’s request follows news that Carrier IQ software installed on millions of smart phones and mobile devices is tracking every keystroke of users and sending the information back to the software company without user knowledge or permission.

Rep. Markey’s letter asks the FTC to investigate the matter as a possible unfair or deceptive act or practice.

  1. Starting to notice a very disturbing pattern here
between the republicans and democrats in their reactions to these privacy violation issues. It seems like it’s always a democrat galvanizing themselfs into action on these matters. Where are my republican brethrens.

  2. For all the rhetoric Republicans spew about being strong and independent, they go silent whenever their corporate overlords are exposed doing something like this. As incompetent as the Democratic idiots are, at least in this instance they seem to represent the interests of the people.

    1. … isn’t it?
Too often, this sort of thing goes un-noticed by the Republican fan-bois, or they defend their politicos for their failure to act. “It’s a corporate right to …” etc. Or the Democratic fan-bois to defend their typically spineless overlords.
Quite nice to see at least ONE of these groups show up to defend the Constitution they have sworn to defend!

  3. All those saying what a big deal this CIQ is are the SAME people that were saying how irrelevant the Wikileaks comments were just a few hours ago. What a steamy pile of hypocrites!!!
