The Loop’s Dalrymple reviews iPhone 4S: Other companies just can’t compete

“Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, is the most talked about new feature of the iPhone 4S, but there are many other compelling reasons to like the new iPhone,” Jim Dalrymple reports for The Loop.

“I’ve been using the iPhone 4S for a week now — ever since Apple introduced the device at a special event in Cupertino on October 4,” Dalrymple reports. “The iPhone 4S may look a lot like its predecessor, but a significant speed boost and reworked antenna technology put this model far ahead of the competition, and even ahead of the iPhone 4.”

“With its A5 chip, the iPhone 4S is noticeably faster in everything you do. From launching apps to switching between apps using multitasking, you can’t help but notice the speed increase,” Dalrymple reports. “You can look at each of the items that Apple will release in conjunction with the iPhone and be amazed with how innovative all of them are.

Dalrymple reports, “When you put them all together in one product like the iPhone 4S, you have an incredibly successful product [with which] other companies just can’t compete.”

  1. Good!

Im glad the early reviews are so solid. I was hoping apple would deliver the goods. Android surpassed them in so many ways in the last couple of years its heart warming to see reviews like this.

im a droid user but ive always been open to returning to the iphone.

    1. Is that on a spec-by-spec or feature-by-feature basis?

I ask because everytime I get ahold of an Android device at a party or from a friend I am less than impressed by the actual experience (h/w & s/w).

It strikes me that technically there are arguments to be had there, but the reality shows a distinctive gap (IMHO, that is).

        1. Totally agree…a friend was trying to show of his Motorola Droid to me a few months ago. He was trying to simply forward an email to me, and it took him several tries over several minutes to get it to actually work. The interface is just so convoluted…I was amazed that they managed to make forwarding a simple email such an arduous task.

      1. I only use HTC devices and run the Sense UI so thats all i have to compare.

When i got my droid incredible it was a nice experience. The integration with google cloud services is solid, i never had a need to plug into a computer.

Siri looks to be moles ahead of voice on android but at the time i got my phone it was pretty amazing what they had accomplished.

Sense has some beautiful widgets that actually provide functionality.

Im on a cuatom rom now so im probaably out of touch with the state of the stock android experience.

      2. Ive got two friends with Android phones. The appeal seems to mostly be that it wasn’t Apple. In fairness one guy got his to be on Verizon before Apple supported Verizon. The result is similar; poor battery life, funky operation. But they are happy.

Different friend, dyed-in-the-wool windows programmer is getting an iPad. I urged him to get an Android tablet, but he said no. He’d checked them out and was confident that The iPad was the best. I was amazed.

  2. Like I always said.. Even if Android came with a improve feature of an old feature of iPhone, those fandroid have to wait for apple to came out with the idea.
If you want to see how windows and android phones will be in the future… get an iphone now… in fact, any model, even the EDGE one.

  3. iPhone 4s is just another money-grab by Apple execs. The 4 could’ve had the A5… the chip was there… To trade in my “brand new” 32G iPhone 4 (unlocked, purchased from Apple) they’ll give me less than $200! This formula will work for calculation the true value of your iPhone (ANY model): currentValue = purchasePrice – (monthsSincePurchase x $50) Personally, I’ll wait for the iPhone 5 (already developed, I betcha!) as the 4 is good enough with the retina display which already enhances it beyond anything the competition can offer, and any market that matters uses GSM. Kudos to those who can afford to blow $700 / year for a new telephone. Myself, I buy food instead. I may get a new desktop unit [iMac] every 8-10 years for around $2000 (=$200 – $300/yr saving for the next one) and I get ALOT more material / storage / resolution / speed / practical apps etc…

    1. NEWS FLASH: There are MILLIONS of iPhone 3G and 3GS users (count me as one of them), and even more non-iPhone users chomping at the bits to get the 4S. This phone is for them. So yeah, I guess it is a money grab! LOL

    2. I get a new one every two years from Vodafone so always skip a model. No one says you have to buy every model. Nice if you can afford to but not really what I would call a money grab. They just make phones dude it’s up to you wether you buy them or not.
