“Google on Tuesday unveiled a new experimental tool for developers called Swiffy, which converts some .SWF Flash files into HTML5 code compatible with devices like the iPhone and iPad,” Slash Lane reports for AppleInsider.
“Swiffy is available at Google Labs, where the search giant’s engineers create experimental applications that may not be ready for primetime or intended for the masses,” Lane reports. “Using the Swiffy website, anyone can upload an SWF file and convert it to HTML5.”

Lane reports, “Swiffy supports most of the Flash 5 ActionScript specification. The output file works in all browsers based on Apple’s open-source Webkit engine, which powers the Mobile Safari browser found on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Also available on the site are a gallery of videos and games that have been converted to HTML5 from Flash…”

Will check this out. We need tools like this to convert our Flash-based interactive content into something my boss’s iPad can handle. Question will be how much post-conversion finessing will be needed
Limited to 512 K files and has refused to successfully convert four files I sent for testing. CRAP.
Swiffy supports most of the Flash 5 ActionScript specification
…so it has incomplete support for a version of Flash that’s over a decade old.
“Adobe is pleased to see the Flash platform extended to devices which don’t support the Flash player,”
That explains why.
iDud is destined to fail until it supports Flash, you know the thing the Interbet runs on. Obviously.
Ha ha ha…iDud…good name for a device that is crushing the Wintel alliance almost singlehandedly…
At some point it will dawn on the troglodytes that Apple thinks 25 YEARS ahead..not next quarter, not next year, not even FIVE years ahead. They quite seriously look at a very long term road map. Think this is fantasy? It comes directly from one of the top sales and marketing people in the company. Flash is a buggy and dying tool…on the way to obsolescence sooner than you can imagine.
Craptacular!
As buggy and incomplete as Swiffy is, it still does more than Wallaby, Adobe’s own anemic Flash->HTML5 conversion utility. Wallaby is unable to convert masks or any scripting whatsoever. Adobe is the one with egg on their face here, not Google.
Flash is crap…
No matter if you actually developed stunning technology to polish turds to a mirror shine (and mind you I don’t think any of Adobe’s nor Google’s recent projects could be considered stunning technology) you would still just have a shiny turd.
WOOT! I can now view MORE ads on my iPad!!!!!!!!
wait… nvm.
