Vimpelcom inks deal with Apple to sell iPhone 3G in Russia

Vimpelcom, Russia’s second-largest mobile phone operator, said on Thursday it had inked a distribution deal with Apple Inc. to sell iPhone 3G in Russia.

“Vimpelcom announced today it has signed an agreement with Apple to bring iPhone 3G to Russia, expected later this year,” the company said in a statement.

Will Bland and Andrew Langley report for Dow Jones, “New York-listed VimpelCom, part-owned by Norway’s Telenor ASA, said it would begin supplying the latest 3G iPhone, which is suitable for use with third-generation mobile networks, by the end of 2008.”

“Like rivals OAO Mobile TeleSytems and OAO MegaFon, VimpelCom is in the process of building a countrywide 3G network capable of providing high-speed Internet and mobile television,” Bland and Langley report.

“All three operators will eventually offer the iPhone, Russian media have reported,” Bland and Langley report.

  1. Before any brainwashed viewer of “free democratic” CNN/FoxNews/BBC (etc) say something ignorant, let me make it clear again:

    1) Russia’s military does not need GPS phones since it operates the only other active global positioning system beyong GPS.

    2) Russia did not start war in Georgia, but stopped Mr.Bush’s private Hussein = Mr.Saakashvili, the head of “ally” Georgia, from eradicating South-Ossetia. Russia was obliged to do so as mandated peace guarantor, and it fulfilled its mandate quickly end effectively.

    3) Russia did not invade Georgia, it only increased its troops that already were there according to mandate. For example, if you rent an apartment by a contract, you can not “invade” or “break in” to it, since you already have legal right to be there.

    4) Mr.Bush recognized Kosovo as independent country, Putin warned him of consequences. Now Abkhazia and South-Ossetia are independent, too.
