Apple today announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded more than 300 million songs from the iTunes Music Store. Additionally, the benefit single “Across the Universe,” available exclusively on the iTunes Music Store, debuted as number 22 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart making it the most successful exclusive digital track ever in its first week of release.
“We’re honored to offer “Across the Universe” exclusively on the iTunes Music Store with all proceeds going to tsunami survivors and their families,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of Applications in the press release.
The iTunes Music Store features more than one million songs and continues to add great music in all categories, including this week’s addition of classic live recordings from the Grateful Dead—the two-track “Dick’s Picks” series and the multi-track “Vault” series —and an exclusive version of Jack Johnson’s new album “In Between Dreams” which includes a digital booklet.
With Apple’s legendary ease of use, pioneering features such as iMix playlist sharing, seamless integration with iPod® and groundbreaking personal use rights, the iTunes Music Store is the best way for Mac and PC users to legally discover, purchase and download music online. OK, how many million songs are they selling a day now? Yeah, Im seein Napster taking SSSSOOOOO much market share HAHAHAHAHA
Ah. . . now the free download each week make sense. How many of these 300M were bought? I’m not complaining but sometimes I see numbers around here that would say 300M downloads = $297M. None the less 300M songs equated to 1.2M gigs of iPod space. OK that’s way too much math to do in the morning.

All I can say is the damn record labels better not screw it up by getting greedy and raising prices.
From the 100 million mark to 150 took about 90 days or a little more than half-million songs/day. From the 250 million mark in late Jan ’till today took about 37 days or 1.35 millions songs/day. So in less thantwo years, the daily average has gone from 1/8 mill. per day to 1 1/8 mill. per day – almost 11 times. Coooollllll

This sales growth chart should continue on its current path as long as the major labels don’t get stupid/greedy.

There are no Apple iTMS songs being sold. Never! My feelings – as usual – WMA will slaughter them all! Our initial assessment is that iTMS and iPod sales will all die.
I blame Al-Jazeera – they are marketing for Apple! God will roast their stomachs in hell at the hands of Microsoft. No, Napster is not scared, and neither should Microsoft be!
Be assured. Redmond is safe, protected. Who are in control, they are not in control of anything – they don’t even control themselves!

Lying is forbidden at Microsoft. Bill Gates will tolerate nothing but truthfulness as he is a man of great honor and integrity. Everyone is encouraged to speak freely of the truths evidenced in their eyes and hearts.
Now even the Apple command is under siege. We are hitting it from the north, east, south and west. We chase them here and they chase us there. But at the end we are the people who are laying siege to them. And it is not them who are besieging us.

Well, a slight slowdown over the previous reported number (230 million to 250 million) – but still interesting enough.
Apple’s next 50 million (i.e. 350 million) should come in around the 6th April and they will be able to announce over 375 million (around 383 million, by my projection) served come the second anniversary of iTMS, which is on the 26th April.
500 million will be announced on or around 8th July.
Other projected milestones now look like…
End of FY2005: 650 million downloads
End of calendar 2005: 850 million
1 billion tracks downloaded by 28th February 2006
200 million tracks/day sometime between 27/09 and 22/10.
This does not take into account any new iTMS activity or territories, such as Japan or Australia.
