Apple’s 2027 Megalaunch: Camera-equipped AI AirPods, next-gen foldable iPhone, and Twentieth Anniversary iPhone

Apple is gearing up for one of its most significant product years in recent memory. According to Bloomberg News‘ Mark Gurman, the company plans a major wave of releases in late 2027, headlined by long-rumored camera-equipped AI AirPods, a second-generation foldable iPhone (iPhone Ultra 2), and a celebratory Twentieth Anniversary iPhone model.

This trifecta isn’t just about new hardware — it represents Apple’s aggressive push to dominate the AI device era while refreshing its most important product lines.

Camera-Equipped AirPods: Siri Gets Eyes

The standout newcomer is a pair of AirPods featuring built-in cameras (likely infrared, similar to Face ID sensors). These won’t shoot photos or videos. Instead, they’ll feed real-time visual data to Siri and Apple Intelligence for contextual awareness. Imagine asking Siri for recipe suggestions while looking at ingredients on your counter, or getting navigation help by simply glancing around. The cameras enable advanced object recognition, spatial understanding, and “Visual Intelligence” features that extend what the iPhone already offers.

Originally eyed for an earlier launch, the project (code-named B798) has been delayed to late 2027 to perfect the AI software and real-time processing. Prototypes have reached advanced testing stages, signaling that Apple is close to finalizing the design. An LED indicator will likely alert users when the cameras are active, addressing privacy concerns.

This move positions AirPods as more than audio accessories — they become a key wearable in Apple’s AI ecosystem, potentially competing with smart glasses from Meta and others.

Foldable iPhone 2 and the 20th Anniversary iPhone

Joining the camera AirPods will be:

• A next-generation foldable iPhone — Apple’s second attempt at the form factor, building on lessons from the first foldable model (expected earlier).

• A special 20th-anniversary iPhone — Marking two decades since the original iPhone revolutionized the industry in 2007. This could feature premium materials, groundbreaking design tweaks, or exclusive features to celebrate the milestone.

MacDailyNews Take: The timing suggests Apple is coordinating these launches for maximum impact, likely around the usual September/October window or a special event.

This lineup comes amid intensifying competition in AI hardware. With rivals advancing in wearables and foldables, Apple is betting big on seamless integration across its ecosystem — iPhone, AirPods, and future AR/Vision devices.

The camera AirPods, in particular, hint at a future where your earbuds don’t just play music, but also actively help you understand and interact with the world around you. Combined with ongoing Apple Intelligence improvements, 2027 could mark the year Apple’s AI vision truly takes off in consumers’ pockets and ears.

Of course, plans can shift (Apple is known for iterating behind the scenes), but the signals are clear: With a new product-focused CEO, 2027 is shaping up to be a banner year for innovation at Cupertino!
