iPhone and iPad users in the EU won’t get Apple Intelligence — those in EU countries can thank your quasi-governmental red-tape-generating bureaucrats for that – as Apple will be blocking AI features in the EU until further notice, except for Mac users.
Ryan Christoffel for 9to5Mac:
This week on the Upgrade podcast, a listener wrote in to point out that recent beta release notes indicate Apple Intelligence may become available for EU users on the Mac, even while being blocked from iOS and iPadOS 18.
I double checked the release notes for developer beta 1 of macOS Sequoia 15.1 and iOS 18.1, and confirmed the key portions.
Here is a relevant section of the beta 1 release notes:
iOS 18.1
Apple Intelligence is available on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in the EU or China.macOS Sequoia 15.1
Apple Intelligence is available on Macs with M1 and later. Apple Intelligence is not currently available in China.

MacDailyNews Take: Makes perfect sense as the Mac is not subject to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA).
And, btw:
The European Union arose because the Europeans couldn’t compete on their own with the rest of the world, so they each lined up to surrender their national sovereignty, unique cultures, and dignity for an undemocratic, opaque, wasteful, bloated, bureaucratic quasi-governmental blob – and, even with the EU’s thumbs all over the scale, they still can’t compete. — MacDailyNews, March 4, 2024

I agree that is plenty to criticize about the EU. However thanks to the EU, most of the countries in EU now share one currency (the Euro) and they settled on GSM as their standard for mobile phones, which has been adopted worldwide. I do criticize their attempts to kill innovation of tech companies.
I have never read such twaddle… How about you just report the news without adding your uneducated political views.

“undemocratic, opaque, wasteful, bloated, bureaucratic quasi-governmental blob ” pretty much describes all well developed countries.
Surreender their unique cultures? I invite you to visit rural France, Spain, Italy, etc etc.
Brian: you must be a twaddle expert because you barfed out a load of it.
The EU is very competitive in areas where it chooses to compete. A common market doesn’t have to dominate all things. Assuming you are an American, you should know very well that the UNITED States is only powerful as when each state contributes to the whole; if the political divisionism and bickering continues, then the US will perform no better than the EU, despite what should be inherent advantages of common language and more modern infrastructure.
Also, note how the Euro remains a stronger currency than the US dollar. Maybe the USA should stop its insane deficit spending before chastising others.
The EU is not “very competitive.” MDN’s description of the EU is very apt.
If European countries were states in the United States, many of them would be among the poorest.
French GDP per capita is lower than the 48th poorest US state, Arkansas, while German GDP per capita is as prosperous as the 38th US state, Oklahoma.
This economic divergence between EU member states and US states in 2021 was as large as 82 percent. If the trend continues, the prosperity gap between the average European and American in 2035 will be as big as between the average European and Indian today.

Hello Mr/Ms Reality…
That twaddle wasn’t written by me, I just quoted it. Perhaps I should have put quotes around it. I agree with every word you say !
I for one will be quite happy to see all AI crash and burn, it’s another rabbit hole.
That is a disgraceful comment about why the EU exists.
