  1. The worst iPadOS update ever. Literally nothing to address the myriad problems Apple has known about for years. The immediate jump to MacOS and Continuity as the very next thing is at least the second time they’ve emphasized that iPad is a companion device they want you to buy that’ll NEVER replace your laptop.

Whatever AI announcements are coming will be lip gloss on a pig (absent AI or an improved Siri iOS18 offers nothing to write home about either).

    1. Figured this would be AI-focused, so an overhauled iPadOS app might be too much for today. But given the great hardware just released, I was hopeful…

Biggest new worry is that the iPad simply isn’t a priority any more. Too many other areas needing their focus. Updating hardware is actually not “as” hard given tons of the work for that is semi being done anyways to support all hardware for other products. But the software? That’s a puzzle they haven’t been able to crack. And if AI and/or “spacial” and iPhone (as always) is where their attention is at now… might be iPad NEVER gets what it needs.

So maybe I need to give up on iPad hopes, read the writing on the wall basically…

  2. Any word from Apple on Apple Intelligence being powered by OpenAI? [or are we supposed to keep that just between us ;)]

Also, how are they describing that relationship with OpenAI if so?

  3. Not sure how I feel about my phone, tablet, or computer spying on the things I’m doing. I hope all this can be completely turned off. Also, when they talk about offloading to the private cloud, I hope it will ask me, before sending anything to the cloud, so I can opt out, and only use the features locally on my phone or device, if I use the features.

  4. AI is the Instagram filter of humanity. You’re not that smart. You’re not that great of a writer. You’re not that good of an illustrator. What’s the point anymore.

    1. We thought it was bad how dumbed-down text messaging abbreviations made communication. Now we’re entering the AI hellscape where most communications will be artificially generated by algorithms developed by anti-social weirdos from Silicon Valley.

  5. That actually went way better than I expected, looks like siri is finally going to work as intended (both in understanding and functionality); and the new siri UI looks perfect for it.

Putting on my tin foil hat for a second, it’s almost as if there was some unspoken moratorium on AI for a long while, then all of the sudden multiple, separate, small companies all of the sudden have all this groundbreaking AI, before Apple, microsoft, and to some extent google? Seems very odd. Maybe they did have a working Siri for a while and were just not allowed to release it for some reason; that would explain why siri has been such strange laggard (although, Apple hasn’t always been the best with services).

So many other things too, especially privacy focused issues, like satellite end to end encrypted messaging, being able to use apple pay phone to phone instead of via messages; if Apple incorporates crypo into Apple Pay it could be a boon for privacy and decentralization.

I wish I knew why people are complaining about the ipad OS. It looks like Apple didn’t address the ‘pro’ complaints, but did expand the use case by improving gaming and Apple Pencil usability. It would have been nice to get phone mirroring on the ipad though.
