At WWDC24 on June 10th, Apple plans to unveil a new AI system called “Apple Intelligence” that will come to next-gen operating system versions for the Mac, iPhone, and iPad. There also will be a partnership with OpenAI that powers a ChatGPT-like chatbot, Mark Gurman reports for Bloomberg News citing “people familiar with the plans.”
Mark Gurman for Bloomberg News:
At its annual Worldwide Developers Conference Monday, Apple will announce plans to deeply integrate AI into its major apps and features — all while reiterating a commitment to privacy and security.
The AI features will account for about half of Apple’s WWDC keynote presentation, which starts at 10 a.m. Pacific time and typically runs for roughly two hours… The company is less focused on whiz-bang technology — like image and video generation — and instead concentrating on features with broad appeal.
The new capabilities will be opt-in, meaning Apple won’t make users adopt them if they don’t want to. The company will also position them as a beta version. The processing requirements of AI will mean that users need an iPhone 15 Pro or one of the models coming out this year. If they’re using iPads or Macs, they’ll need models with an M1 chip at least.
Apple’s AI features will be powered by its own technology and tools from OpenAI. The services will either rely on on-device processing or cloud-based computing, depending on the sophistication of the task at hand. The new operating systems will include an algorithm to determine which approach should be taken for any particular task.

MacDailyNews Take: Making the AI features opt-in and labeling them “beta” (as Apple should have done when introducing Maps way back when) is the smart and proper way to go as is making A.I. mean “Apple Intelligence” for 2.2+ billion of the world’s richest technology users.

No AI photo features? That’s a fail
there are other places you can go if you want to see what it would look like if a pizza had feet.
A.I. (Apple Intelligence) is a marketing masterclass.
Genius at work.
First it was “i” instead of “e”. Apple are determined not to use the same nomenclature as everyone else (tho clearly “Machine Learning” just wasn’t cutting through).
Then there was “AirPort”, which either predated “Wi-Fi” or was introduced concurrently.
…what could possibly go wrong?
MDM takes are usually spot on but,
beta is not what we want.
A beta tag on an apple product really just says “here you go but don’t expect it to work properly we warned u its beta u know, wasn’t given enough time to finish it can’t finish anything anymore takes us forever, tell us what u think sorry” – apple
Siri never left beta.
Thanks for the great stuff.
