macOS 15 to deliver System Settings overhaul

macOS System Settings

Apple is working on revamping menus and app UIs across macOS 15, with the Mac’s System Settings app seeing the biggest reorganization since it was redesigned in macOS Ventura (released on October 24, 2022) and renamed from “System Preferences.”

Marko Zivkovic for AppleInsider:

Individual settings within the app will be reorganized based on priority and overall importance, people familiar with the matter have told AppleInsider.

For example, the section which encompasses notifications and sound settings will be moved lower in the list. The move is accompanied by different music and audio-related improvements, including smart song transitions and a new “Passthrough” feature for certain audio hardware.

The section containing general settings will now be located right underneath key network settings. General settings include arguably the most important user-configurable options within any Apple operating system, so it only makes sense that this section would be positioned higher in the list.

Wallpaper and display-related settings will no longer be part of their own dedicated section, but will instead be lumped together with other options. This means that display-related settings will now be located alongside general settings, accessibility settings and so on.

MacDailyNews Take: Not huge changes, but System Settings could use a bit of a reorg. Even better would be to allow users to organize the menu to their own preferences by simply grabbing an icon and sliding it into desired positions, à la the Dock.

  1. This is what I’ve been wanting for years: the ability to search for blocked phone numbers (for calls and messages) instead of having to scroll the list trying to find a phone number that you’ve accidentally blocked – and sometimes those numbers may have been blocked a long time ago so they aren’t at or near the top of the list.

  2. How about putting ALL of the the settings for a given iOS app IN the app, not hidden in the main settings and then partially sprinkled in the app itself. Better yet, create a hierarchical, drop-down menu system instead of hiding setting under gear icons and three dots, inconsistently placed throughout apps.
