Apple reworks leadership of AirPods, HomePod team

HomePod mini is now available in three bold new colors: orange, yellow, and blue, in addition to white and space gray.

The team responsible for AirPods, HomePod, and similar audio products at Apple will soon undergo leadership changes due to the departure of longtime acoustics vice president Gary Geaves, who plans to retire.

Juli Clover for MacRumors:

Geaves is stepping down from his role, though he will be replaced with “top deputy” Ruchir Davé.

Apple’s acoustics group has approximately 300 members that have developed audio technology for the AirPods, HomePods, and other Apple devices. The team was responsible for creating spatial audio, the 3D sound feature that has been built into AirPods, the Vision Pro, and other devices.

Geaves joined Apple in 2011 from Bowers & Wilkins, and Bloomberg says he will be staying on at Apple as an advisor… Over the course of the last two years, Geaves has been working on an overhaul to the AirPods lineup, and the first updates are expected this year.

  1. My sets of HomePod and HomePod mini have gone from handy little speakers that sound nice to being the most unreliable pieces of junk I have ever bought from Apple.

They can’t stay connected to Apple TVs (last two models, two different houses and wifi), stay matched in stereo (one starts playing, other wanders around like Joe or just starts playing some other random music) or figure out volume.

Have completely reset them and re-paired them many times.

    Thanks Apple!!

    1. Most of my Homepod or other Apple device problems seem to be mostly wifi related. It’s not all on Apple but they should give you more alerts related to wifi not working instead of having to wrack your brain with troubleshooting until you realize the obvious.

      1. I had an Apple network for a couple of years and the Mini’s still had issues. Their signal is good, they connect to some things but they don’t play together with each OTHER in my case. Hard to blame wifi when both show up in Home as a stereo pair and on the Apple TV as audio out and then have issues.
