YouTuber Casey Neistat wore his new Apple Vision Pro all around Manhattan – rode the subway, walked through Times Square, etc. How did it work?

The phrase “glasshole” comes to mind.
I thought the dude was ugly without the AVP. This is a whole new level.
The idiot who cried when KILLARY lost. LOL!
Many is the time when I wished I could watch a video while waiting for the subway. It’s a really conducive environment for that. The more distracted a person can get in a subway, the better.
not sure walking around NewYork with a 4,000 computer on your face is the brightest idea. Even the police get mugged. Your kinda like a pink pony in a heard of zebras, do you really want a glow in the dark, flashing bells and whistles bullseye painted on your back.
I got my VP on Feb 2. I bought it, kinda as a non believer, to test it first hand and see if the product was a fail. I own a lot of AAPL and lately have been consider my exit from Apple stock simply due to the fact at a 3 trillion market cap its hard to make the case for apple to double (6 trillion). So I bought the Vision pro with the purpose to score apples future, If it was less than stellar I would return it and possibly start my exit after 22 years owning AAPL.
– the visual quality on the pass through video is ok (less then the hype), the dynamic range isn’t near real life, and low light is noisy. But the scale and point of view are really great and it’s possible and safe to walk around and interactive with your keyboard and the real world, no offsets of perspective or weird scale or distortion issues. The framework is there once better (dynamic range, low light) cameras are available.
the weight of the headset is a tad heavy but a bigger problem then the weight is the weight distribution, its front heavy and neither band does a good job of distributing the forward/downward pull and pressure of the device over an extended time. I think there is an opportunity for a 3rd party to develop a better head band design in terms of weight distribution.
the hand gesture is good but not perfect, like using a mouse or typing it takes time to learn best practices
the audio is good but could use more bass, works well with the AirPod Max the extra weight from the AirPods Max surprisingly isn’t an issue, the AirPods Max distribute the weight so much better then VP.
The screen quality of the generated content is insanely good. The clarity is rather impressive.
The head/eye tracking and Vision OS interaction is next level Sci-Fi stuff but you have to learn proper hand techniques. I tend to want to move the hand to the screen space some angle block the best angle for the lenses to see the gestures, still learning.
The killer feature is the virtual screen for your laptop/Desktop inside VP volume. The ability to work with a floating laptop screen that can be scaled and positioned is so awesome. There is no going back. I was doing unity training, working with unity on my laptop inside VP and off to the side I positioned an online training course, video, notes. It like multiply monitors on crack. I designed a work space in my den with Laptop and web pages ect. The next day when I returned to the den, all the pages where still they’re ready for me to go. I was worried that the virtual laptop screen wouldn’t be clear enough to work with programs like C4D, aftereffects with dense and cluttered menus but it’s just the opposite. The ability to scale and position a screen based on use case is the future. Fixed “real” screens are so limiting. This is the future of productivity computing. I can imagine a “stage manager” feature where you could have multiply saved stages that are arranged based on your focus, a stage (room) for stock trading, a stage for video editing, etc… not only with the main application but with supporting web pages and resources already laid out in the volume in a way that makes spactial sense.
There is NO way Im returning it, This is the future. Even if you cant get one now, do your future self a favor and check out the demo at the Apple Store. Soon apple will release a cheaper, and lighter version and if you work with a computer screen you will want one.
There are growing pains and limitations but absolutely no question the positives out weigh the negatives. Even current automobiles have a downside but if you need to go more than a short distance no one would not ride in a car because of the less then perfect downsides. Apple has the next revolutionary product. It’s not perfect, synergy across the apple ecosystem final has a canvas or stage to shine. this is the missing piece we didn’t know we needed.
One issues related to China I have been super critical of Tim Cook but hats off to him and the team at Apple for the amazing achievement of the Vision Pro.
Thanks for the honest take on the Vision Pro, one of the most useful comments I’ve read here in a while. I’ve been cautiously optimistic, then pessimistic based on report about limitations right before the release, but watching vids on YouTube from real owners has made me very bullish on the device and Apple in general.
The Neistat vid was lame and he didn’t know some of the key settings, like for when you’re in motion. Canoopsy did a much better video in this vein: https://youtu.be/JJ4R0yJ9-vg?si=dV-wc3WwIGSaRikx
