Similar trial results last week from Pfizer and BioNTech drove investors into underperforming names dependent on a vaccine reopening the economy. The companies said at the time that their candidate was more than 90% effective in preventing Covid-19 among participants.
A vaccine “turns what could have been a prolonged crisis into something closer to a natural disaster (large shock, swift recovery),” TS Lombard analysts Steven Blitz and Andrea Cicione wrote in a note. “Without an effective vaccine, current EPS consensus expectations (pointing to a return to trend by the end of next year) would be on the optimistic side. But with one, they may actually come to pass.”
Traders were also excited on Monday after Moderna said its vaccine remains stable at 36 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature of a standard home or medical refrigerator, for up to 30 days. It can be stored for up to six months at negative 4 degrees Fahrenheit. By comparison, Pfizer’s vaccine requires a storage temperature of minus 94 degrees Fahrenheit.

The election was two weeks ago. Every morning, there is some new story of a scandal. Every afternoon, the facts emerge and show that there was, at most, the sort of human error affecting a tiny proportion of the votes that has happened in every election since 1788. You keep railing against Dominion Software, yet virtually every example you have cited to date had absolutely nothing to do with their software. Elsewhere in this thread, we have somebody trying to suggest that the rabidly pro-Trump Governor of Georgia was in on the conspiracy.
There are repeated claims that there was something nefarious about the fact that election workers who had been working the in-person election since 6AM went home to get some sleep at 2AM the next morning before returning to count the mail-in ballots. The early in-person returns were overwhelmingly Republican because Democrats were voting by mail to preserve social distancing. The later mail-in returns were overwhelmingly Democrat because the President had been threatening Republicans not to vote by mail. The resulting “red mirage” followed by a “blue shift” had been predicted for weeks.
All that this crap is doing is undermining American faith in our electoral system and threatening the smooth transition of power that has marked our republic since 1796.

Rep. Brooks is absolutely mistaken. The Electoral Count Act of 1887, codified at 3 U.S.C. § 5, provides:
”If any State shall have provided, by laws enacted prior to the day fixed for the appointment of the electors, for its final determination of any controversy or contest concerning the appointment of all or any of the electors of such State, by judicial or other methods or procedures, and such determination shall have been made at least six days before the time fixed for the meeting of the electors, such determination . . . shall be conclusive, and shall govern in the counting of the electoral votes as provided in the Constitution, and as hereinafter regulated, so far as the ascertainment of the electors appointed by such State is concerned.”
So, if a state follows a law adopted before November 3, 2020, in certifying a slate of electors prior to December 8, the ballots cast by those electors on December 14 are the only votes that can be counted for that state. The state cannot alter its process for appointing electors after Election Day and Congress cannot reject the votes cast by the certified electors.
Georgia just certified its election results and awarded its electors to Biden.

Trump did not shut down travel to China completely. He only included Chinese nationals and let in everyone else return who brought the virus back with them. Its like trying to catch a water leak with a sieve. It is very clear that the only reasons he did the ban was to make a political point to China.
Contrast this with how New Zealand and Australia handled people coming back to their countries. Quotas were in place for returning nationals. Everyone had to go in quarantined immediately on arriving to the country for 2 weeks. And guess was the spread of the virus was limited to minor outbreaks.

Turns out that Floyd County apparently failed to count 2,631 votes. The votes were cast during early voting.
According to Coosavalley News, of 2,631 votes that hadn’t been counted, it appeared that between 1,600 and 1,900 were cast for President Trump.

So in looking beyond the prospects for 2-3Q 2021 results, we need to keep focused on the ball of the actual economy itself. And today’s Economic indicators are suggesting more than a slowdown in the recovery, but possibly the start of another contraction:
Meantime, there’s silence on extending bailouts, which is going to further depress consumer confidence.
