Apple is said by no less than TF International Securities’ uber-analyst Ming-Chi Kuo to be basing the forthcoming 5G-capable “iPhone 12” design on the iPhone 4/4S/5 which is widely considered to be Apple’s best-ever iPhone design.
Apple’s next-gen “iPhone 12” family obviously won’t be officially revealed until this coming September, but, based on Kuo’s information, artists have visualized Apple’s next-gen iPhone.
According to his sources, Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup will feature a new design with flat metal edges around the perimeter instead of the rounded edges we’ve seen on iPhones since the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus debuted in 2014.
Apple’s iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro phones will seemingly be a modernized version of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 design that people adored, and we can’t wait to see the finished version. The only downside, it seems, is that the new iPhone 12 models will still have a notch at the top of their displays. As other smartphone makers continue to inch closer to the all-screen design everyone wants, Apple’s sophisticated 3D face recognition tech that’s tied to Face ID is a roadblock that the company hasn’t yet overcome.
With all that in mind, we thought now would be a good time to go back and look at some of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro renders that have popped up in recent months.

Looks like an iPhone 4 to me. To be honest the metal band and square edges never appealed to me. I prefer a more rounded look.
I have had all but the very first iPhone. I did not like the sharp edges at all, and I have large hands. My 11 Pro Max is my favorite, and I would not want to go back to the old design shown above. Just me, I understand that many like it and that’s fine as I won’t need a new phone for quite a while. Just not sure what the advantage is in sharp edges?
Since Apple hypes the iPhone as your go-to camera, the squared-off design is MUCH easier to hold in landscape camera mode than the rounded edges, at least without a case.
I’m STOKED to go back to the classic 4/5 series design. I never used a case for my 4S.
Me too. Except its irrelevant since I along with most people (I assume) keep it in a case all the time. Once in a while, I remove it from the case, clean the dust and lint, revel in how beautiful it is, put it back in its case and then lament that I have to keep it in a case 🙂
My iPhone 4s was the most beautiful phone I’ve ever had, or seen. It was like a jewel. But I do admit that fir larger phones a rounded back edge is more comfortable. My iPhone 11Pro Max is very comfortable, despite the size.
I’m not sure exactly what Apple is planning here despite the RUMORS otherwise. We’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?

Could not agree more. It at least it looks like they dropped the hideous notch…
I hate these things because they get my hopes up that the notch will finally be gone, but I can feel it in my bones that Apple wants to keep it. In fact, for Apple’s sake, I hope everyone doesn’t start anticipating a notchless iPhone this year only to be disappointed come September.
That would mean a bigger battery….oops that would mean iPhones last longer than 24 hours so can’t have that.

If the smallest size has a footprint closer to the original SE with this design/form factor I will be all in!
I don’t know why they can’t move the power button down a little, so that it is not directly across from the volume buttons.
