Is your Mac showing random black boxes in photos? Here’s the fix

“Here’s a problem that could cause a panic,” Glenn Fleishman writes for Macworld.

“Macworld reader Cil has been seeing black squares in their photos at random locations and often in different places,” Fleishman writes. “It not only appeared on screen, which was bad enough, but when exporting to create a photo book, a black square appeared in one of those.”

“Despite the help of an Apple Store in reinstalling macOS and deleting preference files, the problem persists. I have to say that I was almost stumped this one, but the internet provides. I think I have an answer for this peculiar problem,” Fleishman writes. “The problem is with the GPU, or graphic processing unit, in that Mac.”

  1. The problem is with the GPU? Really?! Who would have thought …

This just marginally ranks above “answers” on Amazon that state “I can’t help you with your purchased item because I don’t have one” …

I miss the days when people actually felt they needed inside knowledge before feeling entitled to write on a subject …

    1. It’s not clear if you agree with his assessment or disagree. It sounds like you think that’s the obvious answer, but then you insult Fleishman’s “inside knowledge,” so which is it?
By the way, I guess you aren’t aware that Fleishman is a LONG-time Mac tech writer, with multiple very popular and well-written books. He knows what he is talking about.

So, your sentence is pretty damn ironic, considering you’re opining on the expertise of a writer you clearly know nothing about:
“I miss the days when people actually felt they needed inside knowledge before feeling entitled to write on a subject …”

      Yeah.
