Analysts: Apple ‘frantically’ trying to meet surging iPhone demand

“Apple’s iPhone 7 went on sale last Friday, and some models instantly sold out, prompting the Street to compile its best guesses as to how Apple is doing with supply and demand,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.

“The most bullish note today is from John Donovan and Steve Mullane of BlueFin Research Partners, who had written on the topic a week ago,” Ray reports. “The authors today write that Apple is ‘frantically asking component suppliers to pull in deliveries in a mad rush to deliver incremental iPhone 7 units by year end,’ citing higher-than-expected for the new device.”

“The authors see Apple ‘enjoying a perfect storm thanks to carrier programs and the ongoing Samsung saga,’ and AAPL is ‘putting the screws to the component base to meet surging demand,'” Ray reports. “The analysts are raising their shipment estimates for the quarter ending this month, for all iPhone models, to 45 million, up one million from their last count; and they now model the company contracting for 82 million units in the December quarter — the total “build” count — up from 78 million estimated previously, with shipments of 78 million, up from 76 million previously.”
