Apple CEO Cook to host Paul Ryan fundraiser as company tries to strengthen relationships with key Republicans

“Apple CEO Tim Cook will host a fundraiser with House Speaker Paul Ryan next week as the iPhone maker tries to strengthen its relationships with key Republicans — despite its decision to pull support for the GOP convention because of its distaste for Donald Trump,” Tony Romm reports for Politico.

“Cook will help generate cash for Ryan at a private breakfast on June 28 in Menlo Park, Calif., along with Gary Wipfler, the company’s treasurer, according to an invite obtained by Politico on Monday,” Romm reports. “The money benefits not only the speaker but a joint fundraising committee aimed at helping to elect other House Republicans.”

“Cook is hosting the fundraiser on his own accord, as Apple does not have a corporate political action committee like Facebook, Google and other tech giants in Silicon Valley. Still, the move reflects Apple’s desire to court Republican and Democratic officeholders alike, even at a time when it has serious reservations about Trump, the GOP’s presumptive presidential nominee,” Romm reports. “In August [2015], Cook hosted a fundraiser for Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio), a major ally in the company’s calls for tax reform, in Atherton, Calif., according to an invite obtained by Politico.”

        1. What reality are you living in? Do you even read the news? The Feds under the Obama administration have been going after Apple for a long time now…..ask anyone that works for the company. You don’t really think that Trump supporters went full Samsung and traded in their iPhones just because of what he said back then? I know plenty of Trump supporters that carry iPhones, plenty.

  1. Go Timmy! Keep you head up the Republicans’ asses so Apple can keep getting those “sweet deals”! Just gotta love those tax dodging breaks, slave working conditions, over-priced products, over-seas labor and operations, and anti-American privacy products. Your a real winner…or is that whiner! Doesn’t matter: My days with Apple products are coming to an end. I was a faithful Apple user since the 1980s, but you have managed to kill the excitement I once had for Apple. Maybe you should run as Trump’s running mate and become one of the GOP (Grand Old Psychopaths) faithful.

    1. “My days with Apple products are coming to an end.”

Wow, the melodrama! I trust you will also stop using all products where you have a similar level of disagreement with their tax and employment policies.

Apple are shining angels on both fronts, compared to most.
Good luck finding enough to buy to stay alive.

  2. I use to think Cook had class and a brain – no more! Paul Ryan is one of the most over rated, morally challenged and screwed up politicians in office today. While the challenger to his seat is a bit of a nut job, at least he is more transparent and does not adore Ayn Rand with some sort of religious fervor. Cook, you obviously have not done your homework on this decision.

    1. EXACTLY.
The only time I’ve *shivered* watching and listening to a politician was the first time I witnessed Paul Ryan speaking. He is a verifiable psychopath and continuously justifies my assessment of him. Knowing that, consider the fact that he is #3 in line for the presidency as Speak of the House. Sick times.

      1. The ONLY time!!!? Seriously!!!? Not that I disagree with your evaluation of him at all… but to not have a bunch of others in the category 5 batshit box with him is incomprehensible to me.

        1. Batshit crazy is one thing. I can laugh at them. Transparently deceitful I can see a mile away. But when someone pulls together charisma, looks, mild mannered concern about the future and our general well being when he actually wants to FSCK-THE-HELL-OUT-OF-YOU… *shiver* …That’s scary. It’s into that vague and abstract world of evil that no sane human being wants to believe can be real. That’s how nuts and dangerous this guy is. Trust him not-an-inch.

Cue the theme from ‘Criminal Minds’.

This is the MOST sick moment I’ve ever experienced as an Apple supporter.

    :-Q***** X ∞

    Shame on you Tim Cook.
    Shame on you Apple.
    Enjoy your alliance with psychopathy.
    Sick sign of the times.

    1. don’t you mean NAY- phones ?

i think given mr. ryans views on a great number of social issues, not to mention his spineless decision to support donald trump, it is morally reprehensible of tim cook to help raise funds for him.

from a business and practical standpoint it is not too hard to see why he is doing so, in hopes of garnering some protective political support for apple.

even so it is not exactly a “profile in courage” moment for tim.
