Best Buy removes 12-Inch MacBook, fueling hopes for looming update

“Electronics retailer Best Buy has quietly removed all 12-inch MacBook models from its U.S. online store this week, fueling anticipation that Apple will refresh the ultra-thin notebook lineup in the near future,” Joe Rossignol reports for MacRumors.

“Select MacBook Air models are also on sale for $150 off, potentially signaling that a broader Mac refresh could be imminent,” Rossignol reports. “Most current machines are historically due for an update, and appropriate Intel Skylake processors are now widely available.”

Rossignol reports, “Last month, reference of an early 2016 Retina MacBook, which has yet to be released, was discovered within OS X’s System Image Utility application, spurring hopes that Apple will refresh the 12-inch MacBook by late April… Select 12-inch MacBook models are also listed as out of stock at MacMall.”

    1. I don’t thinking anyone hopes for a looming update. Most people want their updates installed and configured without any fuss.

I do know of a textile factory where they’re updating the looms, but that’s different.

  1. YES Please! In the name of Jobs isn’t it time for some new computers! I need a replacement for my Late 2011 Macbook Air and a new iMac (with Thunderbolt 3 and Skylake) to replace my late 2010 iMac. I’ve got $5,000 burning a hole in my pocket  PLEASE take my money!

  2. They’re just doing the world a favor by getting rid of an underpowered, overpriced, underspec’d POS!

Cook should be embarrassed but the incompetent Apple babysitter has no shame.

    Up next:

A new Macbook with an 8″ screen, paper thin body, no ports, replete with a 500mhz RISC processor, all for the special Tim Cook price of only $3000!

    1. The gray model might be $3k, but I’m sure Apple will offer a pink version for only a few hundred more. You know, because a different anodized color makes it special.

  3. Anybody notice the market crossed the 18K mark while AAPL fell? Again. And, again.

Apple Phone Inc. is in the tank. Where it will remain because there is no future in a one product company. None. Thank you, Tim. You are doing such a great job.

  4. Though I was very skeptical about the new Macbook like many other Apple fans, I can see owning one in the near future. The first gen seems a bit underpowered to me, but the refresh or gen 3 will be plenty awesome for 99% of users. If tens of millions of people are using the iPad as their primary computing device, the most portable OSX machine sounds excellent. The one hangup for now is the price, but it’s cutting edge tech like the first Air was, it’ll come down.

      1. They’ll add a second one in future gens, or on the larger new Macbooks. At this point does it really matter, do you want two dongles for sticking out of two ports? USB-C peripherals are still few and far between.
