Apple Music now works with Sonos speakers

“Sonos just released an app update for iOS and Android that lets users stream albums, songs, playlists, and Beats 1 radio from Apple Music,” Chris Welch reports for The Verge.

“The company is making it very clear that Apple Music support is in beta, though all the key features work just fine,” Welch reports. “ou’ve got the personalized For You section, plus New, Beats 1, and My Music, where you’ll find your existing library and iTunes music purchases.”

Welch reports, “It sounds like Sonos will work quickly to improve Apple Music on its platform, and the company is encouraging beta participants to submit feedback on what they’d like to see.”

      1. Thanks. I tried this but there is a quite a lag from my iTunes computer connected speakers to the Sonos units in next room, which sounds weird. Sonos speakers can handle AirPlay as there is a ‘hack’ but I don’t want to mess with them. It must be a licensing issue.

        1. There’s a lag for me too, but that lag is purely from aiplay.

          There’s no lag at all from any other sonos music that I’ve tried. But there’s a lag on Airplay on all other speakers I’ve tried.

          I listen to audio books using audible on my phone and sonos and I’d love to see apple reduce that lag.

  1. YES!!! Its here and its kicks ass. Listening to it right now and for the first time ever I actually like Sonos’ app design BETTER than regular Apple Music. Great job Sonos – I can finally stop the hate and love you again!

    1. I totally agree…

      Note to Apple, this is how you launch a music service (note the use of the word Beta).

      I’ll give Sonos until after the holidays before I resume whining about other things like Apple Watch support (although there is a 3rd party app).

  2. I’m using it now. For anyone wondering, you need to:

    * Open the Sonos app
    * Tap “Settings” then “Advanced Settings”
    * Tap “Beta Program”
    * Tap “Join the Beta Program”
    * Update your Sonos system*
    * Add Apple Music from the “Add Music Services” menu

    “Update Now” prompt may take up to 15 minutes to appear. Tap “Online Updates” in the Settings menu to update immediately.

    I’m using it now, and it’s pretty awesome. I wasn’t expecting it to be so fully featured. It plays all of my uploaded and matched music as well as Apple Music library songs.

  3. anyone know how to update the Mac desktop app to support Apple Music? I updated iOS app without issue.

    I really wish Apple would just buy Sonos. They have a wonderful product, high quality, high priced(!), etc. And, it just works. Just like Apple stuff used to do… 🙂
