“Apple’s next big thing, which few people are talking about today, is augmented reality, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said Wednesday,” Patrick Seitz reports for Investor’s Business Daily. “Speaking at Business Insider’s Ignition conference, Munster gave his predictions for Apple in 2016 and beyond. Augmented or ‘mixed’ reality devices are a longer-term initiative that could eventually replace the iPhone, he said.”
“The big stories next year for Apple will include expanding its iPhone Upgrade Program internationally, launching a second-generation Apple Watch and the iPhone 7, and adding features to its Apple Pay service, Munster said,” Seitz reports. “The ‘killer feature’ for the Apple Watch 2 will be ‘decoupling’ the watch from the iPhone, allowing it to operate more independently without being wirelessly connected to a handset. ‘This essentially would allow you to do the basic functionality of your smartphone including texts, phone calls, social (media) on your watch without having the headache of carrying your phone around,’ Munster said.”
“‘Mixed reality is a major paradigm shift that will eventually replace the iPhone,’ Munster said,” Seitz reports. “Apple will succeed where Alphabet so far has failed, he said. ‘This is Google Glass that actually works.'”
