Apple’s ‘A9’ processor for next-gen iPhones and iPads will offer performance ‘to kill for’

“The must-have feature of Apple’s ninth-generation iPhone could be its super-speedy, power-efficient main processor,” Patrick Seitz writes for Investor’s Business Daily. “”

“Current consensus on the next iPhone is that it will have a Force Touch display, which can tell the difference between a press and a tap, as well as improved cameras,” Seitz writes. “But they’re overlooking the possibility that the iPhone 6S could have a processor that is ‘perceptibly superior to the current iPhone 6,’ Srini Sundararajan, a semiconductor industry analyst with Summit Research, said in a research report Thursday.”

“The [14nm] A9 chip in the iPhone 6S will offer performance ‘to kill for,’ he said,” Seitz writes. “The A9 processor will likely be 20% more powerful, 12-15% smaller in size and 35% more power-efficient,” he said.”

MacDailyNews Take: We think Srini meant “to die for,” but still, we want. Bring on the massive performance and battery life gains!

Also, anyone who thinks Force Touch isn’t a major feature, on that’s soon to be an intrinsic feature of all Apple operating systems, certainly has never worn an Apple Watch. Force Touch will be as important as pointing, tapping and scrolling. Devices that lack Force Touch, like today’s current iPhone 6/Plus already feel lacking to many Apple Watch owners. Hopefully, soon, when we try to “Force Touch” our iPhones and iPads out of habit from using Apple Watch, it’ll actually work!

  1. The new version of the processor will be more powerful?
    I can’t believe it. That’s amazing.

Why is everyone setting themselves up for disappointment with this Force Touch thing?

  2. Force Touch will be one of those things that PC and Android guys go:

    • “Well, it was OBVIOUS that it was the next step.”
    • “Oh, so now Apple can patent pushing.”

And other douchebag comments, deflecting the fact that their favorite tech companies (almost) never think of anything original.

  3. Please this is just setting the bar way too high. The specs are okay, but to say you would kill for or die for this, is ridiculous.

I do not want to die for 20% improvement. I want to die for 300% improvement. Let’s be real.

However let me tell you something. A little secret. Without discussing what’s on my iPhone, I am going to say the battery life on the 6+ has been amazing. Just yesterday, 84% left, after 24 hours unplugged under typical use. When I was running iOS 8.3 I was not getting stamina like that.

  4. I for one, look forward to force touch. I know exactly how it will benefit me. I constantly highlight words by accident with my big clumsy fingers. Hopefully this solves this annoyance for me. Better battery life and camera are also going to be killer features. Definitely glad i held on to my beloved 5s for another year.
