Citi delivers mobile banking to your wrist with new Apple Watch app

Citi announced today it will launch a banking app designed for Apple Watch when Apple brings the device to market in the U.S. on April 24, 2015. Among the first banking apps for a wearable device, the Citi Mobile Lite app will enable Citi U.S. debit and credit card customers to view account balances and recent transactions and to receive real-time notifications of credit card transactions at a glance right on their wrist with Apple Watch or iPhone.

“At Citi, we believe that banking should be simple and convenient, and we are constantly exploring advances in technology to help us deliver that kind of experience,” said Heather Cox, Chief Client Experience, Digital and Marketing Officer for Global Consumer Banking at Citi, in a statement. “Apple Watch users will have access to all sorts of information and services, and if our customers want to check their balance or view a seconds-ago transaction right on their wrist, it is our job to make sure they can.”

Direct, password-free access to account information on the Apple Watch and iPhone is enabled by Citi Mobile Snapshot, an opt-in feature Citi introduced in 2014 that enables customers to view information without having to log into their accounts every time. Citi was the first major U.S. bank to offer the feature.

    1. Indeed it was slick how Citi and other scumbag banks stole from taxpayers. How anyone could continue to do business with entities that profited from the bailouts and distributed billions to executives who gambled depositors’ money with impunity is beyond belief.

Boycott citi, BoA, and the rest of the scumbags who stole from you. It’s not like there isn’t a local bank or credit union who offers all the services they do, even if it does take the agony of pulling your iPhone out of your pocket to see your accounts.

  1. I am not too worried as long as these app functions are protected by Touch ID. But Apple needs to be very careful not to let third-party apps introduce security holes that could lead to a fiasco.

Apple appears to be doing a great job of finding a point of convergence between data security and user convenience. I don’t want anyone to mess that up.
