Forward3D Chief Executive Officer Martin McNulty discusses Apple’s introduction of the Apple Watch and why he feels the product is very “poor product” and “un-Apple.” He speaks with Guy Johnson on Bloomberg Television’s “The Pulse.”
Guy Johnson: “A really poor product?”
Martin McNulty: Yes, I don’t know what problem this is solving. I really don’t understand.
MacDailyNews Take: That much is obvious.
People talk about this being a device, but it’s not a device, it’s an accessory. Because this product only works if you’ve got an iPhone in you pocket… I don’t really understand what this is doing. — Forward3D CEO Martin McNulty
MacDailyNews Take: Then why are you on TV sputtering about, trying to talk about it?
Among other things, Apple Watch can track your fitness information and play music contained in its own onboard storage via Bluetooth without your iPhone being present.
I think there are loads of luxury watches out there… I’m not sure what problem this watch is solving… When I look at the features, it very much looks like an also-ran. — Forward3D CEO Martin McNulty
MacDailyNews Take: You obviously didn’t look at the features or you’d know what Apple Watch can do without the iPhone present.
I don’t think people are going to start abandoning their Patek Philippes to wear a $300 watch. — Forward3D CEO Martin McNulty
MacDailyNews Take: Alright, nobody is actually this stupid, so follow the money: Forward3D’s client list is right here, and it’s loaded with fashion retailers including – drum roll, please – The Watch Hut, The Watch Gallery, and many other retailers who sell – gasp! – wristwatches.
Oops, make that used to sell wristwatches.
Does Bloomberg Business point out this potential conflict of interest? Not anywhere we can see.
This feels like a sort of vanity project. You know, it’s the epitome of wearable, but, really, I just don’t think that’s how the market’s truly going to play out… This doesn’t feel like a killer product to me. — Forward3D CEO Martin McNulty
MacDailyNews Take: We love the smell of fear in the morning!

MacDailyNews Take: Great marketing there, Martin T. Marketeer! You really saved your clients’ bacon while making yourself look like quite the genius.
Thanks for the quotes! We plan on using them frequently in the future.
MacDailyNews Note: 11:40am EDT: Amended Apple Watch’s standalone features. Thanks, opsono!
