“The simplicity of Apple Pay is what makes it compelling,” said Ed McLaughlin, chief emerging payments officer, MasterCard, in a statement. “Along with simplicity, it is important that MasterCard cardholders enjoy a secure and private experience – along with all the rights and privileges of a genuine MasterCard transaction. We worked closely with Apple toward a vision of building a user-friendly, secure payment experience and delivered on that vision by providing the most secure combination of payment technologies ever deployed in Apple Pay to the benefit of our cardholders.”

  1. That’s all? Oh, noes! How can Apple Pay succeed if those are the only banks on board? Google Wallet probably has those and more.

    /s
Someone will surely dig hard to find the banks that aren’t supported and it will be posted all over the internet to prove Apple’s incompetence.

  2. Wow, that’s some list. Apple must have great leadership at the top to get all those banks to agree on Apple Pay.

Way to go Tim Cook, keep up the great work. Oh and I just love the direction my stock is going.

  3. Android fan tech writers on other sites are desperately trying to knock down Apple Pay.

For example Matthew Miller of Zdnet states that:

he was only SUCCESSFUL ONE out of THREE attempts to use Apple Pay ….

Matthew Miller using Apple Pay : “I was successful with one of three attempts at McDonald’s.” while with his android and Google Pay “The transaction was quick and easy… (and unlike Apple still struggling to find partners ) “There are hundreds of thousands of locations that accept Google Wallet payments ” which he had been “using since 2011”

    OF COURSE:
according to Mc Donalds rep he failed with Apple Pay because he swiped THREE TIMES WITHOUT FINISHING A TRANSACTION! (the terminal is blocked to prevent multiple copy charges) and of course also his iPhone was enclosed in a “Rugged Griffin Case”….

What he calls ‘quick easy transaction” with Android Google Wallet is described thus : (I copy and paste): “First, make sure that your NFC radio is enabled on your Android device. You then have to unlock your device, if you have it secured, and tap it on the payment terminal.” (i.e use your password to get into the phone then get the NFC app and make sure it is switched on etc…. )

this is somehow as good as an iPhone which you touch the fingerprint sensor and tap (we don’t even want to get into the convoluted process to link the android to credit cards in the first place… )
THE KEY TO NFC PAYMENTS is that it has to be EASIER than credit cards (especially the chip cards) not HARDER dude!

EXPECT MORE OF THE SAME FROM TECH WRITERS WHO WANT TO PROTECT THEIR BREAD BASKET ANDROID (heck a lot more money reviewing dozens of android phones than a handful of apple). and of course the 13 billion Samsung spends on ‘marketing’ …
