Apple’s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus: The world’s best phones for wireless and LTE connectivity

“With every release of the iPhone, Apple dramatically improves the wireless radio capabilities in ways that no other device maker has ever matched. With the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple continues that trend, setting the bar even higher than ever before,” Neal Gompa reports for ExtremeTech.

“As always, Apple aims to please and exceed. And as always, Apple over-delivers with its new iPhones,” Gompa reports. “It is very clear that Apple has more than delivered on developing the greatest world phones that any traveler could ever want.”

“Apple has truly delivered a best-in-class smartphone for the connected traveler,” Gompa reports. “And with features like seamless WiFi calling with HD Voice on T-Mobile US and EE as well as VoLTE on a number of operators, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are unquestionably better than any of Apple’s previous smartphones, and probably the best smartphones in the world for cellular connectivity.”

  1. Why does AT&T always leave us out in the cold, when it comes to modern cellular features, like hotspot, VoLTE, Wi-Fi calling. This really sucks, because the tech and infrastructure is there. This is all policy based. AT&T is telling its customers “Take our crap and stay with us” they can’t even say, or leave.

The only improvements have been LTE. But the rest, is insulting.

    1. They just aren’t on the bleeding edge. They don’t need to be. They currently provide Hotspot with Data Share plans. They are rolling out VoLTE and WiFi calling in 2015. Their coverage is either the largest or 2nd largest, do change us slow just in terms of scope of size. WiFi calling is advantageous for smaller carriers with terrible coverage in people’s homes.

    2. There are a number of VoIP apps that work over the top on your LTE or Cell Data on AT& T and Verizon available in the App store that offer a fixed number and give high quality sound. You do not have to wait for AT&T.

I use TruPhone and have been checking out VoxOx

        1. I use TruPhone on iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone and Mac Desktop (the Mac desktop client still works but is no longer available). Overseas, you can call on WiFi and avoid expensive roaming (TruPhone also offers a SIM for your phone) and you can use any number of devices to make and receive calls. They also offer the option of recording calls from the network end- something worthwhile for business contacts, voicemail and all the other stuff.

          The call quality is excellent.

  2. And when are they going to let us few that are grandfathered into unlimited data have a personal hotspot feature – there can’t be enough of us to overuse their data… Really How may of us are there?

  3. So if/when this wi-fi calling thing spreads world wide, will it negate the need for an unlocked phone (or paying outrageous international roaming fees) if traveling abroad? Will I be able to make calls to the US over wi-fi when traveling in Europe? That would be nice!
