Apple’s ‘spaceship’ campus filmed by drone

A Bay Area photographer used his DJI Phantom 2 Quadcopter with Zenmuse H3-3D 3-Axis Gimbal for GoPro video camera to take aerial footage of Apple’s new corporate campus in Cupertino, Calif. on Aug. 24,” Bloomberg TV reports. “The campus is still under construction.”

Apple’s new campus, on a site totaling 175 acres, is planned to house up to 13,000 employees in one central four-storied circular building of approximately 2.8 million square feet.

On June 7, 2011, Apple CEO Steve Jobs presented to Cupertino City Council details of the architectural design, saying, “It’s got a gorgeous courtyard in the middle, and a lot more. It’s a circle, so it’s curved all the way round. This is not the cheapest way to build something.” Every pane of glass in the main building will be curved.

  1. And right there is why drones can be so anti-social – apparently ‘Private Property’ means something different when you’ve got a camera attached to a fat electronic bee. Can’t wait till someone makes mini drone-seeking missiles out of überfireworks or similar. And then the drones up-armour and drop flares. And then . . .

Oh yes – I’m sure this won’t be getting out of hand any time soon . . .

    1. “Private Property” means you can’t set foot (or wheels) on it. It doesn’t mean you can’t fly over it or look down on it from the sky. You think they FAA should implement a no-fly zone over office buildings just because the company who leases that office building would prefer it that way? Yeah, I’m sure that won’t get out of hand…

  2. I loved this video the first time I seen it, great job. How about you shoot new videos every few weeks to cover each stage of development so we can see each level as it progresses? Again, great job, best coverage I’ve seen.
