“A video on Macworld today reminded me how bad Apple’s Weather app for iOS is. Serenity Caldwell shows how to use this app, but neglects to point out that it’s one of the hardest weather apps to view,” Kirk McElhearn writes for Kirkville.
“I don’t know why Apple chose to use such low-contrast colors in this app, but it’s extremely hard to see if your vision isn’t sharp, especially outdoors, which is one place where you might want to check the weather,” McElhearn writes. “The fonts are smaller, and there’s lots of wasted space.”
McElhearn writes, “Since Apple’s app uses Yahoo!’s forecasts, it’s much easier for me to use the Yahoo! app, and this may be the case for lots of people.”

MacDailyNews Take: Which weather app is the best app for iPhone? iPad users, is that the best weather app for iPad, too, or do you have another choice for weather on iPad?
I’m definitely a meteorology nerd. Here’s my $0.02:
I use Intellicast/Intellicast HD for general forecast and current conditions information as well as detailed radar and storm data. I pay for the in-app storm tracker tool, which is definitely worth it to me thanks to its near real-time raw radar feeds, lightning plots, and storm cell stats. Way beyond the scope of your average weather app (like the built-in one).
I also use WX Alert USA, which recently received a much-needed update/refresh. This app essentially serves up NOAA/National Weather Service data in a much more convenient mobile interface than the website. I most frequently use the “Forecast Discussion” notes, which basically gives the detailed “story behind the forecast” from the NWS office meteorologists.
Finally, for quick access to satellite data (animated visible, IR, and water vapor), I’ve bookmarked the relevant pages of iweathr.com, a very useful site which sadly only works on mobile browsers. I also pull up aviationweather.gov whenever I travel to see what I’m in for. 🙂
The BEST weather app for IOS , bar none, is Intellicast HD. Intellicast is the orgabization that provides weather data to the FAA !!!
Try it, you’ll never use anything else…
Yahoo weather app is the best I have used on iOS
Yahoo!
My weather app setup: Weather Underground is the main app, for detail and accuracy. Weather Line for quick info and precipitation predictions, and NOAA Hi-Def Radar for the best and most accurate radar maps. Weather Channel and Yahoo Weather just aren’t accurate enough… I’ve seen temperature differences for my location of as much as 10 DEGREES between those apps and Weather Underground, where WU is clearly correct!
Weather Line is okay. They haven’t updated it since last November. Yikes!
As Robin Williams joked in “Good morning Vietnam”…
“You’ve got a window, open it!”
Yahoo! Weather
The main reason I don’t like apple weather is it isn’t accurate. It is raining hard, but the app shows cloudy right now.
