“Some users have recently noticed a significant improvement in POI (points of interest) data in their local Apple Maps,” Arnold Kim reports for MacRumors.
“A discussion thread in MacRumors forums reports one user’s experience,” Kim reports. “The same user also posted to Reddit, where several others have confirmed the same improvements in data and quick turnaround time with corrections.”
Kim reports, Apple has made number of mapping-related company acquisitions in the past year, including Broadmap, Hopstop, Locationary, and Embark, and it’s likely those acquisitions will be bundled into a future Maps update.”

Apple Maps still has incorrect street geometry for my parents. It’s still got the old names of two roads that were renamed almost a year ago.
AM has, however, finally filled in the name of an arterial street in Montreal that was previously only labelled by the official highway number that cuts through the city, but *no one* ever calls it by that number. It took a year to see this happen, though.
I’ve noticed that maps will keep showing where I’m driving even when not online! The little dot moves along the roads just as if I am connected! Love that. Was in Spain and even my iPhone was usable for walking while not connected to wifi or cellular service. Really helped for walking in Barcelona.
After seeing this article I checked my address. It was still wrong (although in a different place than usual). But, when I clicked on the “report an error” link I was asked to drag the ‘dropped pin’ to the correct place. Interesting approach!
Yes I had to do that the other week, haven’t checked yet if it has made a difference, nice idea mind.
Siri frequently tries to kill me… She says she knows how to get there, she gives turn by turn directions, then she tells me to turn into a field and stop, where I am convinced she has contacted trained killers to meet me there… Do not trust her
Apple Maps has better directions than my BMW built in navigation system in my home town.
Nope. Same correction I sent to Apple a year ago is unchanged. Of course, the phone book is wrong, too, but still…
Yep maps in Australia have started to improve. I just looked at an address on the Victoria side of Murray river and it now is correctly listed. My home street is now also corrected. Yeh
