Welcome to the iUniverse: Apple’s next big thing might be another ecosystem

“A fall, a spring, and a long winter in between have passed since Apple has announced a major new product. Yes, there are refreshed MacBook Airs, and a new entry-level 8GB iPhone. But we’ve had press conference announcing tablets, phones and wearable bands galore from nearly every manufacturer in the meantime,” Scott Stein writes for CNET. “So, as we approach WWDC, Apple’s first media event since last October 2013, there’s a bit of pent-up anticipation. To say the least.”

“But if there aren’t any new Apple hardware products, that doesn’t mean there won’t be new products at all. Software, yes: iOS 8, and a new version of Mac OS X,” Stein writes. “But nestled in this might be a lot of other hardware news: products that work with iOS, versus ones made by Apple. The ones that fill up Apple Stores. The MFi — or, Made For iPhone — galaxy of products, which might soon turn into a universe.”

“MFi accessories already exist, like keyboards, game controllers, and speakers. CarPlay is a made-for-iPhone type of accessory, too. Next up could be home appliances, health tech, and maybe even other surprises,” Stein writes. “Maybe the next step for the iPhone is to connect everything else in your life to it… Cars. Smart home. iBeacons. Health sensors and wearables. All of that, on top of Apple’s already gargantuan iOS install base — tens of millions of iPhones, iPod Touch units, and iPads, ready to be deployed as frontline soldiers as Apple begins an assault on the Internet of Things.”

      1. Your comments are always very homophobic. Are you one of those Republicans/conservatives with repressed homosexuality who are lashing out because of their self-hatred?

        1. So you admit you are homometric and you visualize one man’s dick in another man’s butt hole.

Have you seen a head shrinker? I hear they can make the confused feel better about themselves.

        2. “Homometric” is an actual word, though althegeo’s use of it above is clearly a misspelling of your own non-word. The real question is, why are you visualizing gay sex acts while claiming to find them so offensive?

        3. You did, by correcting “Hey Botninnik”‘ assertion that your comments are homophobic. You say they are “homoemetic” instead, then defined your fake word quite clearly as a nauseous state brought on by visualizing gay sexual acts. So, if you suffer from such nausea, it is clearly self-inflicted.

        4. OK, you’re NOT homophobic, you’re “homoemetic”, which YOU define as a type of nausea experienced by visualizing homosexual acts. You could heal YOURSELF by ceasing such visualizations.

        5. You suffer from the unfortunate and deleterious assumption that people are not allowed to form their own values. My values are that homosexuality is a deviant behavior. If you don’t like it, shove it up your ass where it will surely have plenty of company.

        6. You’re really obsessed with men’s butts, aren’t you?

The real reveal of all this, however, has nothing to do with your nonsensical fake words but, rather, your apparent new-found displeasure with Apple. I trust that means we can count on seeing less and less of you from now on.

Though I’ve always disagreed with you on nearly everything, Botvinnik, I’ve never considered you a troll. But now?

          You’re a troll.

        7. Botvinnic is clearly a complete loser, a total failure in just about every aspect of his life, and who has to make up for his inadequacy by being a vile little parasite on public forums, where he can hide behind their anonymity.
What’s the matter bottie, did the jocks and frat boys make fun of you in the showers, laughing at your tiny dick?

        8. Denialism
In human behavior, denialism is exhibited by individuals choosing to deny reality as a way to avoid dealing with an uncomfortable truth.[1] Author Paul O’Shea remarks, “[It] is the refusal to accept an empirically verifiable reality. It is an essentially irrational action that withholds validation of a historical experience or event”.[2] Author Michael Specter defined group denialism as “when an entire segment of society, often struggling with the trauma of change, turns away from reality in favor of a more comfortable lie.”[3]

        9. Hey, you got a beef with botvinik? Go ahead blast away, but leave the generalized whitewashing out of it. You betray your own bigotry. I am a Republican with Gay friends and relatives. There are plenty of non-Democrats of the same ilk.

        10. “will defend anyone’s right to state them”
That’s a good joke. Is that “defending” right before you launch into obscenity, name-calling and insult?

“I would appreciate the same respect.”
You’re hilarious today! Would that be the same as the respect you show others with, “fuck you”, “idiot”, “you are mentally ill”, “stupid motherfucker” and “dumbass”.

        11. What’s this great “normal” man, botvijerk?

Do you have have even the slightest idea how many of these fine “normal” men beat their wives, rape their daughters AND sons, engage in organized bigotry and violence (e.g. KKK and their ilk), knowing produce products they know kill masses of people (the fine heterosexual owners of tobacco companies), ruin people’s lives with their giant Monopoly games, engage in massive political corruption and greed (that you, supposedly, hate)… and much, much more.

And you want to talk about “deviant” behavior!

        12. As usual, throughout this page, you are full of declarations of The Truth, bovijerk messiah… with no back-up of rational argument; no reasoning. And you counter my argument with an attempt at an insulting brush-off. Pathetic.

By the way, I think the reactions shown to your empty ranting show how much it is valued. A “normal man” might take note of that. A megalomaniac – not so much.

        13. ‘Hey Botninnik’ – please stop stereotyping. Not all Republicans/Conservatives are homophobic, just like not all Liberals believe in Obamacare. It’s so funny how you libs hate to be stereotyped, yet you attack the right in that exact way.

        14. hmmmmmmm, Republicans? Conservatives? Homophobic’s? It sounds as though you have some issues. I didn’t see the word liberal or Democrat in there. You sound like a fanatic. You should seek professional psychological help.

        15. Certainly the constant repetition of a single view does seem like a fixation complex that hints at an underlying fear or bigotry. Certainly one that the term ‘normal’ would not ‘normally’ be associated with.

        16. On one level, it is indeed highly amusing. On a more scholarly level, it is an exemplary case study in the science of rhetoric. The dynamics of communication in this thread, illuminated by related threads, would animate a Master’s thesis at many universities.

        17. You are correct, in a university of ours hopefully,

once again, thoughtful response i must say

in the midst of some of this drivel

          ‘shamed t’ be muracan somedays….

    1. It would bring FaceTime into the future. Imagine chatting with a hologram friend who is sitting in the couch across from you. This will change the world. Is 2014 the future?

      1. I don’t get how that would work, if you are holding up a (just for an example) an iPhone with the camera pointed towards your face, how could the other person see that as a hologram?

        1. The ‘display’ for a holographic GUI would be something like a cube or sphere of material containing tiny reflective particles. (I suppose tiny liquid crystals would work, an interesting approach I just invented. Patent Pending -Derek Currie 2014) 😉

You need to use RGB lasers to project moving ‘holographic’ images into the ‘display’ where they appear to be 3D. How you’d interact with the objects is another matter. Presumably one of the gesture and camera systems would be required.

The whole thing would be big and clunky, not particularly portable of convenient.

Projection onto a special 2D plain of material can also be used, again with RGB lasers either in front or behind the ‘screen’. But again, not very portable or convenient.

I’m holding out hope for NOT holography, but the use of rapidly alternating polarized screens, presumably liquid crystal, to trick they eyes into seeing 3D imagery inside and outside a standard looking display. We’ll see. That would be both portable and convenient. No lasers.

  1. botvinnick, you have lowered yourself so far into the pit that, any insight of actual relevance or any observational commentary of interest that might have been has been sufficiently trampled into the mud beneath your well-worn baby shoes only to be replaced with the offensive and derisive ridicule of those different than yourself or even those who may see the world differently. I feel ashamed to know you’ve written such things. I condemn them and apologize to Tim Cook and others from Apple who may have read them.

On another note, in OSX, I wish I were able to right-click any small application or window and have it float above all others for the duration I needed.

ps. I’m surprised mdn didn’t elect to clean up some of the more egregious filth.

      1. In another life, botvinnick, it was the arrogance of fools much like yourself, espousing bigoted intolerance, raising their voice above all others, who were responsible for the torture and the burning of great people of stature and integrity like joan of arc and giordano bruno. It continues today, in the disruptive graveside protests of fred phelps and on the internet, in the posts of the botvinnicks. btw, botvinnick has a ‘c’ in its spelling because i put it there to separate myself from the egregious mispelling you’ve registered.

        1. Solomé you have been brave to take on this awful monster, this Shrek haunting our waking dreams. You seem to me another fantasy character with mystic powers. Aside from the time travel thing, I mean. Have you given any thought to dealing with Jay or Sean? A charm would bring new daylight to the forum, I think

        2. Never mind Jay or Sean. You need to put the hex on “joe.” Lately he has been stealing the joy and polluting the water. Vex him with your sly allusions and entrance him. No one can overcome all that. 🙂

        3. No need to “deal” with me. All I’d like is for botvijerk to stop his poisonous barbs and his supremely arrogant Holy Writ declarations. At that point I’ll have little or nothing to say to him. All I’m doing is expressing my disapproval of his crap.

By the way, notice the number and nature of replies to him in the last couple of days. Many people appear to be thoroughly sick of the content and style of his posts.

        4. I’m glad we can talk. Of course, I was only joking around with solomé. You are hardly an adversary. Your non-botvinnik posts are good IMO.

You are right, he has been off on another rant lately. Perhaps I care too much and overemphasise the good — like a loyal wife, amortising the emotion over time, making excuses. I can’t help it. But I promise I won’t interfere with you again.

        5. With all due respect to your erudition, intelligence and wit, hannah, I think there is some parallel to that loyal wife making excuses for a violent abuser.

botvijerks posts fall mostly into a few groups:
          – outright obscenity and insult directed at others here
          – obscenity and insult directed at others elsewhere… Cook, Obama.
          – crusty little exclamations such as “heh” and “zzzz”
          – Holy Writ pronouncements, completely absent any rationale.

In a work context, his obscenity and insult would get him fired. In the local biker bar, it would get his teeth punched in, or much worse. If he were a schoolboy, he’d be in various kinds of trouble.

Any small number of posts that are reasonable do nothing to balance the amount of poison and arrogance.

    1. Right, I always visit this site for investment advice. The guys are never wrong. Also tips for the upcoming Belmont Stakes, which vitamins are best, and the proper watering of succulents

      1. This is also a good site for releationship advice

        /s
        there i finished your post

Actually, i find here interesting information about how and when to maintain engaged dialogue. Best, tho, is the lessons in maturity that a few of the posters offer when confronted with a severe lack thereof, by not engaging

Thanks hannahjs for your maturity, it is a breath of fresh air !-)

    2. The historic herd behavior dictates that you sell as of last Friday. Then watch for the bottom. After it starts to limp back up again, it’s time to buy.

The danger of course is that Apple announces something insanely great, like a wearable that humans actually want to wear. Then all bets are off.

  2. Hannah… Do you really want to go on defending the small-minded rantings of botvinnik above?

I would propose the fact he can, occasionally, come out with a funny or clever remark does not counter such nasty drivel, any more than the usual cries of “But, but, he is such a fine upstanding member of the community” is any counter to the just uncovered behavior of a wife-beater or child rapist.

        1. hannah, botvijerk is incapable of restraint.

Urrr… I’m not dispersed. I’m not. I’m getting better. I feel fine. I think I’ll go for a criticism of botvijerk.

“when the light is turned on” — you have a very high opinion of yourself, Botvijerk Messiah. It really isn’t deserved.
