Apple has just released Apple TV Software 6.0:
• Apple TV 2G (AppleTV2,1) version 6.0 (Build 11A470e)
• Apple TV 3G (AppleTV3,1) version 6.0 (Build 11A470e)
• AppleTV3,2 (AppleTV3,2) version 6.0 (Build 11A470e)
Apple TV Software 6.0 includes support for iTunes Radio, iCloud Photos and Videos, iTunes Music Store purchases on Apple TV, Podcasts, and the AirPlay From iCloud feature which allows users who’ve purchased content from iTunes store to play that same content on other Apple TVs.
To update your Apple TV to the current software version:
1. Select Settings > General > Update Software. Apple TV checks for an available update; if one is available, a download message should appear.
2. Click Download and Install to start the download process.
Do not disconnect your Apple TV during the update process. The Apple TV status light may flash slowly during the update and restart process. This is expected behavior.
Apple TV upgrade did not work. It asked to be connected to iTunes but I have no USB port on my TV. No I’ve just got the front light flashing continuously. I’ve unplugged it twice to no avail. First time for me to not have an upgrade work. Mac user since 1984.
Bricked. Unreal. Fast flashing light, image on TV to plug into iTunes. Plugged it into my Macbook with iTunes running, won’t detect. Tried a bunch of combinations of plugging / unplugging to iTunes, power up / down, etc. Nothing.
I can’t believe they are confirming that there is an issue with the update yet they still haven’t yanked it from the server.
This is the second time an ATV update has bricked my ATV. This one is an ATV3, and the last time this happened was an older version on my ATV2.
Flakiest product they have ever made.
Mine bricked too, iTunes does not see it tried tried over and over again. Very very poor show Apple. I agree with one of the previous posts, I am a die hard Apple fan since 1986 when I was little 🙂 but the last 1-2 years I have seen more problems than I have seen in the previous 20 years using Apple products. So What to do now ? Sit and wait I guess ?
This is unacceptable. Turn on Apple TV, and I’m asked if I want to upgrade to a newer version. Sure, who wouldn’t. The upgrade kills the Apple TV, and won’t recover until it’s plugged into iTunes with a VERY special micro USB cable. Of course I don’t have one, plus it’s Saturday night. So I’m stuck because an upgrade offered itself without any notification that by the way, you need this special cable, and that’s it. This is not like Apple at all.
Bricked and then tried to restore with my macbook pro using a microusb and got a notification that my apple tv couldn’t be restored… apple tv updates have been going horribly recently, first time i’ve gotten hit by one though; i had the same experience Jeff Pinkerton, sure why not upgrade…
I thought the old days of being wary of updates were gone … not!!
My apple tv was just a week old … after the update the remote wouldn’t work. I went back to the apple store and luckily they were nice enough to just exchange my old apple tv for a new one. I was unable to attempt restore because I have an old laptop which would not be recognized (10.3) and that’s my only computer. Bummer apple ….guess I’ll lay off the update permanently to avoid same problem.
