Open thread: How do you like Apple’s iOS 7?

Apple released iO 7 today.

iOS 7 has hundreds of new features, including Control Center, Notification Center, improved Multitasking, AirDrop, enhanced Photos, Safari, Siri and introduces iTunes Radio, a free Internet radio service based on the music you listen to on iTunes. In addition, iOS 7 has been engineered with deep technical and design integration with both iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c.

iOS 7 runs on iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPod touch (fifth generation).

So, provided you successfully navigated your way through the flood of traffic that ensued with so many downloading the new operating system for iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, and/or iPad mini, what do you like or dislike about iOS 7?

    1. Love it. Been using it since first beta, was great to watch the progress. I’m really impressed at how quickly they got this to GM. I’ve also had no major problems compiling for 7. Spritekit needs a bit more work but will really take off when devs start adding support for level layout etc… I think this is a great release, and will really spur a lot of excitement in IOS.

    2. Why did this get down voted?

      I love the new iOS. My only disappointments so far:

      – the Parallax is so weak, even with Apple’s dynamic and static range of images, that it really is a negligible feature. If it consumes any significant amount of energy I’d sooner turn it off.

      – iTunes Radio is playing mostly my own music or music by the artists I’ve indicated I like, even when the Tuner is set all the way on discovery… I was hoping they would at least avoid playing anything I’ve already purchased. Otherwise I love it and I know it’ll be the most used feature for me.

      – Wish I had the ability to invite contacts thought the Calander using iMessageand to strictly email. Anyone know if you can airdrop invitations to Calander events? Is Facebook the only alternative to email?

    6. Truly glad so many people love it. For my part, I’m not sure I even like it.

      My main bitch: The whole experience seems like Jony playing with himself at the expense of usability. iow, feels like my iDevices just went for smart beauties to dumb blonds.

      – too much hipster white; doing simple things like reading email, or using the phone at night is like staring into a flashlight. wish there was a basic black option for excessively Ive’d apps.

      – in practice, transparency and parallax are more silly than useful/elegant

      – moving between web pages via swipe gestures doesn’t work well.

      – app switching used to be fast, now I only see three apps in the tray and need to swipe though three pages if I want to see the same number of apps I could prevoulsly see.

      – lots of little points of laggyness (on the latest gear)

      – notifications used to show multiple info from multiple apps, now it shows one per screen

      sadly, I do like the new font treatments, but Jony pinched that from android.

          Have you given a good stare in a mirror recently? Because when you think about it, neither of those scenarios is particularly flattering.

        3. I like many things about the new release, but I’m experiencing some eye issues and as a result, certain icon sizes and how things overlay, it’s often very hard to read/understand. I may be having eye issues, but think about older people with compromised sight. Is this an OS for just the middle aged and younger?
          Some examples, look at the Find Your Phone search indicators…ridiculously small. The faintness of commands/icons on the lower part of the screen (bookmarks, mic, return, Airdrop, etc) also seem to be designed for a slice of users with little visual challenge–if any.

        4. iOS# up until 6 was for all ages – accepted by ages 1 to 99 – easy to understand and use. iOS7 has improvements yet should have offered options for skinning modifications or custom appearances. Classic iOS or new.

        5. I’m in complete agreement with you. I’m in my 60s and don’t see as well as I used to. This flat interface of iOS 7 strains my eyes terribly. I can’t enjoy using my iPad anymore. Not to have the choice of reverting back to 6.1.3 is appalling.
          Why can’t you offer a choice of interfaces? I’ll definitely have to look into the Samsung Galaxy or some alternative. I’ve been a faithful customer and user of both the iPad and iPhone. Apple has let me down big time now. I’m very disappointed because obviously there’s nothing I can do about my aging eyes. I got along just fine with iOS 6 and most definitely will not be upgrading my iPhone.
          You’re about to lose a good customer through no fault of my own. You’re driving me away.
          I’ve bought iPads for four different people but now with iOS 7 I will not be buying anymore.
          Please give us a choice of interfaces.

          It doesn’t look like android, you could make a case for it taking some styling points (the thin fonts & edge to edge) from windows mobile or even the Zune like but Android? naaaa… android has always just been a mess UI wise no one would copy that.

          The new app switcher is slow scrolling? Well except if you scroll on the app icons instead of the previews… he didn’t mention that… curious?

          It’s slower? If anything it’s noticeably quicker (at least on my 5) particularly Safari.

          Little glitches?, it is smooth and fast (better not worse than it’s predecessor on my phone and iPad) though I admittedly haven’t tried it on the 3 year old iPhone 4

        1. Go to Settings/General/Accessibility/Increase Contrast. Also, you can turn on bold, which helps. The whole design of iOS 7 reminds me of an appliance.

          The controls, font, and type face, and type color are similar yo my dryer and washer. They are both 5 years old, so that design may have been abandoned by the manufacturer.

          So far, I’m dealing with the changes, but miss the richness of the icons, the current layout is a little too bright to my taste.

          Would like the option to change an icon’s appearance like on the desktop.

          All that said, it still works and I like the added functionality.

        2. I tried the contrast controls but didn’t notice any difference. The hardest app to see for me is actually the phone app.. The text is a light grey on white, while other apps have red or black text…

      3. Try adjusting your brightness controls. I found I needed to turn my brightness down, which is great for improving battery life as a nice side effect.

        You can now change font sizes with Dynamic Type as well as add in contrast. There also is an option to reverse the color scheme, this may help you. I actually think it looks pretty cool.

        I don’t really like the new Calendar and the Inboxes for email accounts. I don’t see the numbers quickly and easily in Mail. This could be remedied by changing the blue number to a red circle with the number of unread emails in it.

        1. To your suggestion, I tried adjusting the brightness, but I found that I needed to take it down so far that the entire interface looked grey.

          Here’s the weirdest thing I tried that actually got me close to what I’d like to see: in Settings>General>Accessibility, there is an toggle to Invert Colors. This made my mail, phone, & calendar look exactly like I want them to look. Unfortunately, it made things like photos, videos, and many app icons look a little strange.

          So here’s my plea: any dev that writes an app that lets me selectively invert the colors (i’m envisioning toggle by app), I’ll buy your wares.

      4. Please send Jony Ive back to hardware, the only space in which his brilliance is confirmed. Skeuomorphic or not, the icons are so trite they look like they were peeled from a toddler’s sticker book.

        The “simplify” mantra is open to many interpretations; this one is infantile in the extreme, in tone as well as manner. Regarding nothing more than the visual images themselves, they invoke the patronizing voice of a pre-school teacher, “That’s very nice, Jony.”

    7. I like it but was expecting snappier. I have some lag when Bremen pressing the home button and the home screen appearing. Compared to another iPad that hasn’t been updated the difference is very noticeable.

      1. I don’t think that’s lag, I think it’s an intentional delay to make a smoother transition to the zooming effect (on an iPhone 4S). I think Apple could reduce the delay a bit and still achieve the desired effect.

    8. I am still evaluating. Some things I like… And some things I Don’t. One thing that was a huge disappointment to me is happening radio or whatever they’re calling it. As a Pandora user for years, Apple is nowhere close. Example: Sting Radio. The first song is Sting and the rest are classical. It is the same kind of mis-hits on all channels I sellect. Pandora is spot on.

    9. It is a Complete Disaster!! What market was apple targeting–the preschoolers–where we learn basic colors? My $700 iphone now looks like a $1 toy surprise out of a Cracker-Jack box. Seriously apple–you need to socialize your programmers a bit beyond pre-school.

          Still, I find it fascinating that technology and sexuality are so effortlessly intertwined in certain minds. Freud might have talked of projection. Do you suppose it’s because computer tech (and every other product, now I think of it) is constantly being pushed by marketing types—even by Steve Jobs himself—as needing to be sexy in order to sell?

          If it really were that simple, could products just be simply rated on a scale from zero to Bo Derek? With accompanying and appropriate graphics, of course! That could save a lot of wasted words in tech reviews and cut down on pretentious blogs, and put the spec sheet boy out of business.

  7. The more I play with it, the more I like it. I turned on bold in the Accessibility Setting to make things more readable, and also adjusted the font size in Settings, and that has helped my old eyes. The only thing I’ve found that I can’t make work is scaling a photo to use as my home screen wallpaper. Fortunately, my current wallpaper is OK for me.

      1. Thanks for the suggestion of turning on the Reduce Motion option temporarily in Settings/Accessibility. That allowed me to scale the photo to my desires just fine. I turned it back off after the adjustment so I could enjoy the parallax motion in the Home screen.

    2. Agree with the bold type, I am seeing more and more of the superskinny type faces in all forms of advertising, change for the sake of change, hopefully a short term bling fad.

      Like the colors a little bit than I thought I might. Liveable even if a bit overdone. If I had the choice, I would tone it down just a bit.

      I like the way it operates, as someone else said, smooth operation.

      Can’t say much about iTunes, I love music but not obsessed enough to have an app that does so many things that you would actually have to be obsessed to be willing to research the 100’s, thousands? of features. Have heard that Steve was obsessed with music in his later years, and as I said I love music, but don’t want the app to be the world, too much fun going on in the real world to want to hid there. Just my own personal rant.

      1. I was just about to comment that some things are harder to read, but I’ll try your suggestion first. I think some of the new design is just ugly and feel like I’m looking at 16 bit color. Other things look nice. I just tried to check my calendar and didn’t enjoy that experience at all on the iPhone, but I’ll give it another look tomorrow. I’ll say it again, change for the sake of change…. However, I think I like parts of it better than I first thought I would, but then again, maybe a little bit of skeu

    Do NOT like the small folders.. nor the HUGE dock.
    I do like much of the rest that I see so far.

    Give me back the old dock.. and some of the old icons. The rest I like.

    The iPhone 5 shows i’m up to date… lol.

  19. The new options are awesome, I just don’t like the new look. Windows just made their logo square, now apple Apple has made their iOS square, flat, and 2D. The gray app folder background does not look great. I would like them to offer some theme option so I can get that 3D look back, where the buttons jump out at you. The look of floating app icons is awesome. The control center is great. The list of awesome features are endless.

    Side note, when is MDN going to update this app to fit the larger screen? Thank you.

    1. The “Gray” folders are really semi-transparent white squares. If or when you place wallpaper with some color behind them, they will no longer look gray. The default “space with stars” does turn the folders gray.

    2. I throughly enjoy the new look and feel. I also do not like the Calendar app. The borders between days and weeks and months are so subtle that they are nearly invisible. A little too cute with the flat design. This is a utilitarian application and the borders mean something. Otherwise, good on you Apple…and best of all it is free.

    3. True. The Calendar app is virtually unusable for me now. If I select a day from month view, I don’t want to drill in to an hourly view… that doesn’t give me a snapshot for the whole day. Moreover, if I have multiple All Day events on a particular day, I can’t see them all as they get cut off. Horrible redesign without any thought put into it.

      That being said, the rest of the iOS is phenomenal. Control Center, multitasking, Camera app, multi-page folders, etc. are all fantastic, and the new interface is far more contemporary and readable. All good stuff, except for the Calendar app.

      1. I mostly like the week at a glance layouts, rather than jumping to the single day view. (ex dayrunner) Somthing the stock calender app has never had. If that is what you are looking for I would suggest you check out “easy calendar” and/or “week agenda”. I have them both (easy cal on the iPhone & agenda on the iPad) and love them.

  21. Battery life took a big hit. (4s) Went from 100 to 40 percent in about 3 hours. I’m guessing it just needs some adjustments. I noticed everything was in notification center and push was on etc.. Any suggestions for improving battery life will be appreciated. Of course I could just wait a couple of days for the 5s to hit. Yea .. that’s the ticket an iPhone 5s will solve this

    otherwise I think it will be great!

    1. You are on the right track. Just shut down all the notification and push on most of the apps. There are really only a handful that I want doing that stuff anyway. I too have a 4S and have been running iOS 7 since June. After adjustments my battery life is fine, lasting easily all day under normal use. I charge nightly.

  26. Notice a few issues

    First wifi was inactive, and the selector disabled. After reboot, wifi is workibg, but
    1 there is an annoying flickering on anything that is not black, gray or white
    2. Although wifi is working, the 3G info in the status bar did not disappear. How do I know the wifi is on? Simply, my 3G is pretty slow b/c my lame carrier

      1. My wifi symbol is right in place next to the ATT and signal strength dots. If you aren’t seeing the symbol then you aren’t connected for some reason. What I’ve found to fix this is to go into the info for your wifi connection and tap the “Forget This Network” and then set up a fresh connection.

        1. One day our ship will come in. Until then, we can only wistfully scan the horizon from our kitchen window, as we wash our dishes by hand and make do with inadequate folders and repulsive icons.

  32. Been running it on my 4s and iPad(4) for the last few hours.

    I like overall. The home screen benefits from NOT having a busy wallpaper.

    I like Safari’s changes, but when looking at a page with a white BKG, it’s hard to see where the page ends and the top UI of the browser. (small nitpick, tho)

    Over all, it looks great and I have not had any issues. Love the control center, and the way closing apps works, much better than that bar at the bottom, in iOS6.

  33. A small thing, but my wife loves that the text at the top of the map that shows miles and time is finally visible. Heavier text and larger. Great improvement. I also like how you flip the apps up and off the screen. Cool. Camera control is better as well. I just started looking at iRadio, looks promising.

  37. Really love iOS 7. The two items I wish were improved (or tell me how):

    – Turn on Night Mode (see Maps after dark). I have a black iPhone for a reason. I’d prefer a dark theme without inverting colors.

    – iTunes Radio is amazing but my stations are shared with everyone who shares the iTunes account. Should be tied only to my iCloud account like everything else. Super irritating.

    1. same here.
      Go to change wallpaper.. Move and scale. I can try and move/scale and it does nothing, move fingers away, and watch the screen move up/down, zoom in/out for about a minute.

      A bunch of little things are bad, overall I like the changes.. the UI is horrible though.

        The iPhone is now updated to iOS 7.

        The folders are bad on both.
        The dock is “ok” on the iPhone, waaaaaaay too big on the iPad.
        Playschool icons are annoying on both. Please allow themes Apple.

        Wallpaper movement is only an issue on the iPad, but for whatever reason I can’t keep either zoomed, they cut way too much of the photo away.

        Overall, I like iOS 7.. just needs a few tweaks.

      2. I had the same issue trying to scale a photo for my home screen on my iPad 3. Another poster here suggested I turn on Reduce Motion in Settings/Accessibility, scale the photo as desired in Wallpapers, then turn Reduce Motion back off. That worked perfectly for me.

        1. It works to a point..

          I have a 2048×1536 picture, the iPad will only let me show about half of it on screen no matter how much i try and resize it. Turning off the reduce motion does help with it being slow, but does nothing about the wallpaper issue.
          I can see the entire image in photos.. but once I try to make it a wallpaper, it expands.

          Pretty sure Apple will release an update to fix the issue, this can’t be “normal”

  43. Love the feel. Love the functionality. Hate the new Pastel icons. I feel like I’m using a 12-year-old schoolgirl’s phone.

    How about a simple option in settings that would allow you to select the new icons or use the old classic icons.

  50. Loving that there is an iOS 7 and finally a significant change to freshen up the UI.
    I wished they’d put as much effort into the appearance of some of the icons as they did in the new transitions and overall flat design. The only app icon redesign worth noting is the photo app,the rest need tweaking. They seem to have become stuck between a rock and a hard place by not wanting to make the icons too minimalistic compared to some of the controls in each app. Credit to the engineers for the improved speed even on my 4s,looking forward to seeing it in action on the 5s.

  53. Has anyone figured out how to change the font size once you’ve touched the Safari “reader” button? In ios6 it gave you an icon at the top to change the font of the re-rendered page, which was VERY useful.

    And now, to my eyes, the reader (on the iPad, at least) renders the font TOO SMALL.

    Anybody know how to change it?

    NOTE: I’m not asking how to change font sizes system-wide, or in supported apps. I’m asking how to change font sizes in the safari pages that are re-rendered when you touch the “reader” button.

    Well while trying to edit this before posting I found that the magnifying glass that comes up when trying to move ur cursor is a bit off. Makes it a little hard to perform edits acturately.

      By the way, iOS7 works just fine on my Wife’s iPhone4 and even better on my 4S. Why do you think all these phone carriers have new contracts that let you get a new phone every year? It’s because you will be lucky if that next Non-iPhone will even last a year. And don’t even hold your breath for an update for it! Your going to need the profits of that AAPL stock to support the next three years of androids your going to have to buy. “A fool and his money are soon parted”

  57. Upgrade went well after waiting a few hours to allow for the initial download pile-up to pass.

    Upgraded iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod 5 and iPad 3.

    First impressions, just the looks:

    Good:
    – I like the paradigm very much.

    Less good (nothing that cannot be easily fixed though):
    – I’d like to see much less of the all-dominant greyness. It takes away from the intended 3D-effect. The icons in the folder icons used to be fairly distinct in 6, they are less so in 7 due to diminished contrast. Transparency in the folder grey would help a lot.
    – The interface has become brighter, not good when you are into astronomy! I want it darker instead.
    – The folders are much less efficient in using available space, more actions needed to get to a large portion of my apps.

    1. In the Bad department:
      In general readability has gone way down because of flimsy font and white backgrounds. Enabling bold lettering only helps a little bit. The passcode screen for instance was no problem in full daylight in 6, now it’s invisible…….

  62. Anyone tried using it in the dark yet? It is way too bright! Any way to dim the light short of putting sunglasses on? I have brightness at the lowest level. Do whit pixels use more battery than black ones?

    On screen Keyboard is very unresponsive when switching to special characters.

    IPhone 4 now runs like a slug but all other devices are OK.

    I feel like I’ve been downgraded.

  66. My biggest annoyance is the 9 apps at a time displayed in a folder. If I wanted to swipe, I’d have more home pages. Go back to 20 at a time please Apple.

    Still don’t care for the lack loss of drop shadows and reflections on the icons or the pastel color palette.

    Otherwise I’m very happy with the improvements.

  69. I don’t care for the flatness too much. And there are a lot of “bad” design decisions in the graphics. Too much gets lost against a plain background. In the control panel, when you look at some of the icons on the right they practically blend into the background.

    I come from a graphic background and I sort of am tired of web designers and even some app designers who lack basic “page layout” knowledge. Things have to read and maybe not leap out at you but they have to flow. You shouldn’t have to search with your eyes to find what you want.

    This even goes to Apples web site design at times. It varies but there are pages that are really…a mess. Heck, even iTunes is nothing easy to read through if you got a big library.

    They build these big displays and take no advantage of it. Everything is scaled to laptop screens and even then, they’re tiny.

    It seems like everybody is still building wen sites even for old 15″ monitors and nothing else. It’s like still filming movies so they fit on a square 20″ inch tube tv only.

    I like a lot of it but I feel they wanted to make a break so bad they threw out some common sense things.

    1. Saw this as well. As Spark suggested earlier, turn off any notifications you don’t need. After the update I had all apps on in notification center. This was not as it was before the update. Also push for me was on. This also was not on before updating.

    2. Yes! I am experiencing crazy bad battery life on my iPhone 5. I will try the notification center suggestions. However I can’t see why receiving notifications would make a huge difference.

  71. Overall the experience is very good, a worthwhile update. Alone thing however stand out. In all the home screens, all the letters depicting various programs are white. On some new home screens, it is difficult to actually read what folders,programs etc because the the white fonts blanches out to near the background and makes it difficult to read at a glance
    Perhaps Apple will create new home screens with the font being black

  74. While it took me a while to get it installed due to connection errors, I love the new iOS since it finally installed. Can’t get over the fact that it is really better than the previous iterations. And, MDN, you are correct! I love my iRadio. Definitely much better than Pandora.

    Exceptions (so far)
    – put the delete button back on password screen. “Delete” is dumb and unclear.

    – I WANT YELLOW NOTES BACK! It is easier on the eyes than simple white. I also like the lines. Helps me mentally organize

Not enough apps in a folder, and the folders are ugly, flatness is already dull/boring, parallax not really interesting and it’s jittery on an iPad 2 – not smooth, much less intuitive than before (need a tutorial to figure out how to get around and do anything – first time I’ve encountered that on an iDevice), flat app icons less elegant and attractive than the old non-upgraded ones next to them, Radio harder to set up and use than Pandora. Text labels generally harder to read. Control panel is okay.

    Got a lot of learning to do to get all the new tricks down.

    Hoping it won’t hurt my battery life as some people have found.

    I think I’ll leave my iPhone alone for now until I see if I can get used to things. First time I’ve been disappointed by the aesthetics of an Apple upgrade.

  85. One I made adjustments in the Accessibility area, the new ios7 works great for me. Love the ability to take stills while in the video mode in Camera. Also, Siri sounds so much better and seems to wirk quicker. Download was fairly quick and pretty much hassle free.

  89. Today I downloaded and installed this update on two iPads and on an iPhone five. It took a little while the network seemed a little slow, which is understandable; and then it subsequently successfully completed and installed without issue. I signed in and everything came up normal. In my brief exposure to the new operating system I find it a little brighter, a little smoother, and it seems to work faster to get you where you are trying to get to on your screen. Hopefully the rest to you will have similar good luck. By the way my machines are all within a year and a half to two years old maximum. People with the iPhone 4 series and the older iPads it might be a little more difficult but I guess we’ll find out by the end of the week….. good luck to all.

    I currently have an iPhone five which I hope to upgrade to the iPhone 5S on Friday. I feel that the 64-bit operating environment on the iPhone 5S along with the iTouch fingerprint security system will be the bedrock of the next great leg up in the Apple iPhone ecosystem!

  90. I really wanted to like iOS 7. Even after reading numerous complaints that the sneak previews looked like an Android knockoff. After experiencing iOS 7 for myself, I can sincerely say that Jon Ive should be fired! iOS 7 looks like a bastardized version of Android for kindergarten kids! Many of the icons look
    like they were drawn by my four year old! In particular the button icons. The bookmarks icon is a square with a line through it. Really? Most of the
    applications look “anemic”, featuring boring childish icons with a washed out white background.

    I used to LOVE the 3D look and feel of the previous versions of iOS. I can’t believe Apple released iOS 7 thinking that consumers would actually embrace it.
    Apple is loosing it. They are out of touch with what consumers want. iOS 7 represents one of the worst cases of “ive tower syndrome” I have ever seen!

  91. the worst thing is battery life. it is really bad. comparing to iOS 6, it drains almost twice faster. I turned off all unnecessary stuff. apple really should fix it as quickly as possible. otherwise iOS7 is simple, redefined, and beautiful.

  94. I pend updates on my iPad 2, after reading IOS 7 update pending recommendations and read several negative reviews on the internet; This morning I got access to several unused iPad and iPod Touch at the workplace, and decided to go ahead updating them to iOS 7

    After installing on iPad 2,3, and iPod Touch I have to say generally there’s no problem; Translucency works on both iPad 2 and 3; Almost all apps we’re using seems to working just fine; Wallpaper changing took ages as been said though, but who change wallpaper a couple times every day?

    One thing that I dreaded the most is the ipad clock looks horrible on iOS 7 (iOS 7 clock app on iPod Touch is an improvement)

    I will still stick with iOS 6 on my personal iPad 2 for a while though; And I will recommend my workplace to wait until next updates just to be safe

  98. Wouldn’t know…yet. Download took 8 hours (I have country-slow internet, but it must be the servers, too. Then, at last, did the install. Right at the end, after the firmware update, got the message that an error occurred and the phone (4s) couldn’t be upgraded. Now I’m waiting through a 15 minute (no more, I hope, restore). I’ll try it again in the AM.

    1. Set it on restore and went to bed. When I got up today, iOS 7 was installed. Nice job, Apple! Am running through the primer on Macrumors. Took 20 or 30 minutes just to run through the settings, but I expect this will be well worth the time spent. Am discovering all sorts of useful information that you have to tap or swipe to uncover. This is truly a feature-loaded OS that gives great value to the hardware. I hope the average user spends time both learning what’s in the software as well as customizing the settings. Love the look!

  99. I am surprised at all the complaints about iPhone 4. I upgraded, against the advice in the Ars Technica article, and have barely noticed any performance differences in about an hour of use. Overall much cleaner and focused appearance. I could do without the animations but they don’t slow things down perceptibly. Very happy so far.

  101. I am the original Apple fan boy from 1984. I stood 11 hours in line for the first iPhone in June 2007. I have always updated my iPhone with the latest iOS version ASAP.
    So today, I updated my iPhone and IPad as well as my wife’s iPhone and iPad.

    I was shocked when I saw the thinner text and no obvious buttons. After I entered my pass code, I did not notice the OK button tucked right in and not set apart and obvious.

    The Contacts list text was too thin for me.Some of the Safari action button stay in the background barely seen.

    OK, so after some tweaking of the text size, I find the text now acceptable. I am getting used to it although I think Ives went overboard on the buttons. What is wrong with a border around the button icons?

    I am enjoying the new added features (auto app updates, new control center, notification and multitasking panels) that makes up for my slight discomfort.

    So the bottom line is that iOS 7 is indeed a radical change visually. I still know how to use it but there is a slight cognitive dissonance.

  104. For some people, you might find that Settings/General/Accessibility/Invert Colors makes the overall appearance much more tolerable. I suggest everyone try it, at least – you might be surprised. Reply to give an opinion once you’ve tried it.

  109. it looks ok on the 4s but i felt it was real horrendous on the iPad 2. The design cues are more in favour of a large screen iphones. Am surprised that ibooks, find friends, podcasts and itunes U are not updated to meet the new design of ios 7. hopefully they are done as they are a real eye sore. Ios 7 on the ipad needs some re thinking. The UI changes makes you feel as if you are holding a small screen device. Maybe I will get used to it over a period of time.

  119. I like it, but when you group apps together, the grey background colour is very dead. Should have app to customise these & add a “roof” type cover, within & under which, that group of apps, reside. So much cleaner interface. Good developer opportunity also !!

  121. Love love loving it! I’m on a 4S. Great flow and functionality, and actually I like the interface. Yes, there is definitely some things that could bear improvement, but let’s not forget that this is 7.0. I think that what they were able to accomplish in about eight months is amazing.
    One complaint: I was bummed to find out that the multitasking does not extend to non-Apple apps being able to take control of audio. There’s so much great music now available in YouTube: this includes full albums, concert videos, the works. I’d love to be able to listen to this music while doing something else on the phone; unfortunately, ever since the divorce with Google, YouTube is no longer a core app and therefore this is (still) not an option.

  127. There is a difference in the calendar between the iPad and the iPhone. Maybe because of the screen size, the iPad gives more detail in the month view.

  128. I’m still getting used to it. My first impression was that it looked like a bag of skittles candy puked all over my phone. Once I switched to a darker home screen background, that helped a bit.

    Being left-handed, the swipe from the left to go back option is making me a little nuts. Where’s the “use left-handed” option in settings?

    The animations are a little slow for me. I’d like a way to either skip or shorten them.

    Love love love the Photos app. The Years view puts the last several years of my life in a whole new perspective.

  131. We’ll, basically I like it and despite the fact that it is VERY different from previous versions of iOS basic usage is all the same!

    I wonder why AirDrop isn’t available to older devices. It uses wifi or Bluetooth both of which are available in older devices.

    I miss having the ability to post to Facebook from the notification screen.

    I am getting some interference with the control center. I try to move a tab in a particular app and keep pulling up the control center instead.

    The new UI is very bright. Both in actually light levels and in the intensity of the color. The layered/moving wallpaper is cool and intriguing.

    Time will tell, but I see little if any degradation in the user experience.

  133. I am fairly in awe of the new capabilities of iOS 7, but the color palette seems less professional and more 13 year old girl. Purple fonts? C’mon man! But again, I love the capabilities of the iOS. The up swipe access to turn off and on airplane mode, wifi, and Bluetooth actually makes it easier to turn off the Bluetooth/wifi, letting me save battery life. And way to go Safari– love the improvements.

  141. I just updated my 3rd generation iPad, and I have to say I’m anything but impressed…
    It’s quite laggy – but hopefully this issue will be resolved soon.

    What really bothers me, though, is that the blur/transparency effect doesn’t seem to be available my device! I remember having read that it wouldn’t work on iPhone 4, but it wasn’t mentioned anywhere that it’s not supported by ipad 3. I checked apples website beforehand to see if any features wouldn’t work and it wasn’t listed there, and although there’s a myriad of articles on updating your device to ios7 (and I read a couple of those), none of them mentioned this. The only info I found when googling the problem were forum posts saying that it was removed in one of the beta versions although it had worked before, and people there were still hoping it would come back in time for the official release.
    … Well, it didn’t, and it looks ugly. A lot uglier than the new icon everyone is so upset about.
    (There is a very simple transparency effect without blur – notification center and Siri look pretty much black, and control center a terrible grey-ish color. For some reason, though, spotlight search and multitasking have the ‘normal’ blurred transparency and look fine.)

    Apart from that it seems fine – it will probably feel better once all the new transitions and everything run more smoothly.
    Unfortunately, there really aren’t that many other noticeable new features for me; iTunes Radio (which I was very exited about) is only available in the US at the moment.

  142. Oddly enough, the new method for closing apps (“throwing” them upwards) reminds me of the Blackberry Playbook, as does the look and feel of scrolling through the apps that are open. Nothing impractical about this design in my opinion, but I was a little surprised to see anything reminiscent of a Blackberry!

    1. there is no longer an intuitive way to close apps running in the background anymore. anyone know how to do this?
    2. i was hoping they would fix the contacts app. i hate that i can no longer directly view contacts in a group. i have to unselect all groups then select the group i want to see then go back to see the group. i preferred the old method (2 iOS versions ago) when you select a respective group you can view it immediately. performing a search is counterproductive in those scenarios for me. i generally am not looking for a specific contact, but looking for a group and all it’s contacts.

    1. 1. If you mean force quitting apps, just double click home button, then you will see app icons and their corresponding “app cards”. Just flick the app card off the screen and it will quit the program.

  149. IOS 7 is great in terms of features and functions, but the UI is terrible.

    All the colors are light, so it is hard to see what’s what. The lines and the font are very thin, so it’s hard to see them against the blinding backgtround. Since the icons are abstract, it’s hard to tell what they stand for. There are almost no dark colors, which means very little constract between one thing and the next. There are also some questionable color choices, such as the Invisible Blue for text (the color they use for nonprinting characters in Pages) and especially when that shade of blue is on a lime green background on the iPhone. Almost completely unreadable.

    It’s true that the UI doesn’t get in the way of the content, but it’s almost entirely absent. It’s like a picture of a polar bear eating vanilla ice cream while sitting on an ice flow during a blizzard at noon in the arctic. Too much white on white. The UI definitely needs better color choices, more contrast between colors, and thicker lines.

    I suppose the flat “design” is supposed to look contemporary or sometthing, but to me it just looks like the developers took the easy way out.

    I’d recommend going to the Apple Store and having an extended session with IOS 7 before upgrading. IOS 7 is a great operating system, but it would be even better of the UI weren’t written in invisible ink.

  151. I have owned every iPad that Apple has introduced and am a proud owner of a 64gb iPhone 5 and two Macs. With iOS 7, I am unhappy for the first time. Why?

    Semi-translucent folder colors are terribly ugly!!

    Colors schemes in many cases seem to come from Fisher Price. I thought I was avoiding the Windows 8 metro look by sticking with Apple. Unfortunately, I had no idea Apple was a fan of the Windows 8 Fisher Price look.

    In many cases even after adjustments, iOS 7 is difficult to read. Why? Too much white, making it hard to distinguish options or to read in a sunny climate or in a bright office.

    Calendar:

    The borders between days and weeks and months are so subtle that they are nearly invisible. In a Calendar borders mean something.

    The dialer:

    Circles? The previous squares provided more space for large fingers.

    My wish – Since iOS 7, I now see the need for Apple to offer more customization options in settings. I wish Apple would let me adjust the colors to suit my own needs and preferences.

    I find myself agreeing with Adrian Kingsley-Hughes of ZD Net:

    “Garish color schemes – iOS 7 seems to pick a color scheme for the operating system based on colors found in the background wallpaper, and while some of the choices are OK, some throw up a primordial soup of greens and browns that are neither aesthetic nor easy on the eye. It’s time for Apple to allow users to custom pick colors.”

  153. Hey MDN. Many many moons ago you posted about a patent where Apple had a 3D imaging system that worked by the user looking at the screen from different angles. Get your iOS 7 phone set it to a complex background image. Tilt your iOS device ever so slightly left, right, up and down. You will notice the flat wallpaper image move relative to the 3D icons. If Apple keeps up this idea you might be able tilt your phone to peak behind icons to see if the app has something to tell you. Very cool Apple!

    1. It’s a neat effect, butt the fonts and icons are thin, faint, and abstract, so complex background images make it hard to what’s on the screen. I’d love to have the effect, but I’d love to use the device even more. I used a solid color background that I had in iPhoto (a DARK color so there would be some contrast), and that makes the home screen almost usable.

      iOS 7 does come with some background images that look like solid colors, but they actually have a pattern that visually interferes with the items on the home screen.

  158. Nobody is a bigger fan of Apple and their products than I am. I installed iOS 7 today, and I have to say, I’m not that all impressed with the new esthetic. The icons looked washed out blend into the background in such a way as to be hard to read. The light weight font they’re now using I feel is a poor choice. It’s too light and hard to read. The App Store interface is much less intuitive. As a seasoned user of Apple products, it took much more trial and error to figure out compared to previous iterations. There’s no way in hell Jobs’ would have allowed this new OS out the door in its present form. It’s really starting to become evident Jobs’ is no longer at the helm. I thought Ives’ was basicly a clone of Jobs’, but I’m beginning to have my doubts. There was only one Steve Jobs, and it’s starting to show. iOS 7 still feels like a beta.

Really difficult to read, at least for my older eyes. The bolding helps, but readability of a small screen should be the highest priority.     Still not sure about the luminous flat icons, some are better than others. Like the functionality changes. Finding thin text a bit harsh on eyes at the moment and some of the grey on greys a bit like I am not focusing but maybe need to adjust. Like the secondary outline icons. Above all love the speed, like a new device without the stuttering scrolling after first update last year so this is magic and unexpected. Also as a side effect means a massive improvement to the typing I find which had become frustratingly bad. So impressed with most but still in to minds about some of the graphic elements.

    Wallpaper is a mess. Resizing does not work right and lags badly when it semi works.

    Icon bar at bottom way to big for what is needed. The old platform worked very well.

    Concept of contrast went out the window. Calender, Note pad etc. In a dark room or if you don’t have perfect sight looks washed out. And the Invert Color, Bold Text, Reduce Motion switch is not an answer to this. If it had a Inverse Color set not flip everything would be pretty cool.

    If they will tone down the white on white in some way and fix the wallpaper they broke that’s work from six on back and tone down the icon bar at the bottom of the screen. Looks to be a good upgrade.

    PS: You can move the stupid newsstand! Yea! Even into a folder!

  172. On my iPhone 4, when using the countdown timer in the clock app. if my phone goes to sleep while the countdown time goes off I get the alert tone but dismissing it does nothing. The only way I could silence the alarm was pressing the power button. Other than that I guess it’s okay, although I rather don’t care for the flat look of the interface. Not my taste.

  175. I think people are not used to seeing or understanding the flat icons reasoning. Because the background is dynamic and moving, as if its from a distance…it doesn’t make sense to have icons on top with a shadow to simulate 3D look to it. If it did and the background is moving around as if your viewing it from a distance and your icons are floating in front of you, it would be a weird visual simulation.

  176. Only a few things not working the way I’d like. Lost is the ability to swipe and delete an email without actually opening it. Also, KTLA.com in Los Angeles does not stay active when streaming to AppleTV when the iPhone goes to auto lock. (I prefer not to keep the screen on). YouTube.com and the dedicated YouTube app continue to play on AppleTV even while other apps are active (like MDN). Thoughts? Fixes? Tweaks?

  178. My opinion on iOS7….ok, here ya go. First, on the performance side…it works and works well, enough said on that. On the style side….

    1. Minimalist style when it wasn’t necessary. I hate it when people change things just for the sake of changing things with no real justification. The old saying is true: Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
    2. The flatness of the design makes me feel like I’ve eaten salad, instead of steak…I’m still hungry.
    3. User Interface designed by the Power Puff Girls…now just throw in a pony and Barbie and you’ve got a complete set.
    4. Gold iPhone 5s, great for chicks, pimps, and metro guys. Gaudy for the rest of us. It should have stayed black or white. These are and will always be classic colors. In clothing, in cars, etc…The moment you deviate from that, your caught up in being trendy instead of being the symbol of quality.
    5. As for the iPhone 5c. I didn’t know they still made Chicklets.

  179. Overall it’s nice. Seems to work well. Have only come across a few little things. Haven’t found any of my programs that stopped working — which is quite impressive. I’ve got some pretty kludgy old stuff.

    Some of the thin-line icons could be a darker grey. Bold text in Accessibility has helped, but I can’t see where Increase Contrast does much. The in-icon progress bars don’t show up when apps are updating (like on the Updates page). That’s a little too little information for me. I didn’t know what was going on at first. A thin border around some things would help (like the ones around just about everything being displayed in the App Store). Don’t like the 9-icon ‘pages’ in the home page folders, especially on an iPad. Should be more. Turned off the parallax stuff. It was cute, but not that impressive. It would be nice if you could bring up the Settings|Wi-Fi page from the Control Center. I have to fiddle with different networks and stuff and sometimes the wrong network gets picked then I have to stop and go to the Setting. I also don’t like how the network you select to connect to jumps up under the Wi-Fi toggle button. I wish it would just stay in the list of available networks. The Dock is a bit big. It would be nice if the icons in the dock were smaller and/or shrunk as you added more icons and made it so you were able to put more than six in there. Maybe that’s coming since everything is dynamically sized now. There are some places on an iPad2 where things seem to ‘pause’ for a bit (like when changing wallpaper) and there’s no indication like the spinning picket fence to tell it’s working. The app displays in the quick launch display could maybe be smaller? It takes a lot of scrolling to get around, where just the icons in iOS6 were packed together. All-in-all though, pretty nice.

    – Airdrop is really cool
    – Control center is a much needed improvement
    – Passcode required to disable “Find my iPhone”
    – New multitasking
    – Improved Siri (impressive)
    – Voice dictation is much improved
    – We can add more apps in a folder

    Dislikes

    New narrower, thinner and sometimes gray font (Calendar, timer, keyboard, etc.) are more difficult to read. Why go that way? This is form at the expense of function!

    Open folders. Now we see 9 apps instead of 16. We need to swipe to see the others.
    Old calculator was MUCH nicer looking

    Bottom line: At least use bold on the new fonts and please bring back the view with 16 (or even 20 apps and keep the swipe function

  183. I’ll chime in. Overall, I like it, but it’s a mix of joy and annoyance that averages out to a net positive. (I have a 4S, btw.)

    — I’m not a big fan of the flat icons, but I’ll get used to it. I do like the zoom effects as you unlock the phone or start an app.
    — I love the Control Center, but I found pulling it up trickier than expected. You can’t just put a finger at the bottom of the screen and pull. It want velocity or it won’t recognize that you’re trying to pull up the Control Center. Eventually, I figured out that I needed to start off the screen at the bottom and quickly swipe up across most of the screen. That usually gets its attention.
    — iPhone won’t complete a sync with iTunes anymore. It hangs on “Waiting for changes to be applied”. But I’m not sure I need to sync anymore, so I’ll live with this until it gets fixed or I get a new phone.
    — Not a big fan of the new way they organize music. When you open an artist, instead of seeing a page of albums, you get all the songs, organized by album. Not a big deal, it just means more scrolling if you want a particular album. I guess it does make finding an album with a specific song easier.
    — For some reason, the OS polls location services every time I wake up the phone. No idea why.
    — I’d like to hear what luck people have been having getting the Podcasts app on iOS7 to play with Podcasts in iTunes 11.1. It was my understanding that iCloud was supposed to keep your podcasts and subscriptions in sync, but that wasn’t my experience. I have a feeling I’m not doing something right.

    That’s about it. Can’t think of anything else.

  184. I actually like iOS7 a lot. It also seems snappier on my iPhone 5. The colors and interface are different (of course, duh) but I really like the new look. Kudos to Sir Jonathan Ive and team. Now, with what I’ve seen with iOS 7, I can’t wait for Mavericks to make its debut. I’m a very happy with the upgrade.

  190. I installed it on an iPhone 4 and an iPad, third generation, first Retina model. On the iPhone, it runs. It’s not snappy. The graphics kind of lurch along a little. No parallax effect, no dynamic wallpapers. On the iPad, it’s much snappier. Only the slightest hesitation from time to time, but, in general, pretty responsive. Parallax effect is there but barely noticeable, and dynamic wallpapers are available and visibly work. I imagine that, on an iPhone 5, it’s pretty damn good. Well, this is the HUGE selling point for iPhone 5s. With the separate graphics processor, this fucker is going to be STUNNING. I may think I’m fine keeping the iPhone 4 for another couple of years, but if I ever get my hands on a 5s, I have a feeling I’m going to be spending some money.

    I don’t really like the cartoonish icons, but could get used to those.. Some look better than others. Safari looks the worst.

    My friend said it best when he buys apple because it’s like a jewel.. The effects and features are jewel like, but not the icons.

    I don’t like the washed out hard to read text and incredibly thin line drawing icons. I find it extremely hard to see the text and icons on the phone app itself… Hate the red on the calendars..

    The keypad on the lock screen I find elegant.. This looks like it was designed by someone else than whoever did the other app icons.

    Calendars are harder to use. The iPad version just looks like the old version without the leather, except that editing an event looks like a single column in excel with alternating colors. The iPhone version is hard to select the events.
    Spotlight search box is tiny.
    Love peoples pictures on their phone call list.
    Female siri to me sounds different, but just as computerized.
    I don’t like the keyboard, how it looks like some of the buttons, like the shift and numbers are selected, by being darker grey, but when you actually select them, they all have a different reaction, but you can’t really tell that they’re selected. Give us Lower Case letters…

    The folders that hold more is nice, however the folders on the iPad are the same as the iPhone. Only 3 x 3 icons.. Tiny folder, so you have to keep swiping. they could have made this show about 16 to 20 icons in each folder.

    iTunes Radio for me plays only about 20 seconds of each song and skips to the next. I find it difficult to use as well.

  193. To me iOS7 is a total FAIL. The graphics are an abomination and any good graphics design school would give you a big F. I found the cheap tacky graphics so disgusting that I reloaded iOS6. Of course I could not restore any of my apps or contacts, but I would rather go through the trouble to get good looking graphics. Sure iOS7 has some new features, but there is not enough of a difference for me to put up with 1980s IBM-PC CGA graphics on my high resolution retina display. Does anybody really like the flat boring washed out graphics? Why would anybody like the flat cheap look compared to iOS6. I hope this flat low tech style of graphics is not the “in” thing. It is a step back in time to when having a 16 color monitor was a bit deal.

    1. It is not a total fail i find i like the zoom effect when unlocking and i like the background how it moves. But we went from icons that had such detail to flat uninspiring icons. I find it hard to use the call screen because when i press on someones number it just sits there for several seconds i would preer the facetime and message down not on the same line as to call someone.

      Also do not like the icons when im in a call. the flat icons looks cheap and most of the icons look like android icons cheap flimsy not fancy like what ios 6 and before did.

      Apple hit the nose on a few things but failed on the rest.

  194. Some of the stuff is cool i like having most used settings from the pull up menu rather then going into the settings and finding it. There are some neat features but i dont like having send buttons and others replaced with text rather then an icon. It seems less icons and more text.

    The pastel coors get old. I prefer more 3D icons the new ones are so flat.

  195. iOS7 on an iPhone 4S is DEFINITELY slower than iOS6. The animations suck. Battery life is noticeably down. Legibility took a big hit. Not a fan of the flat washed-out look at all. For all the little functional improvements, I think the GUI took a HUGE step backward. I will be reinstalling iOS6 on my old phone. Ive should stick to hardware.

  197. One flaw I find is if I’m on a call or using the maps app it puts a banner at the top of all apps. This really interfers with useablailty of the apps. I have noticed it on eBay, Safari and several others.

  198. I think it’s interface is well Shit. I think the old look was way better. I think Apple is trying to hard to be like Google devices. They have taken things that we’re not broken or hard to figure out and made them more complicated. I think it is a huge step in the wrong direction. They Didn’t think out side the box. They got out of their box and crawled it to Googles Box.

  201. A total disaster for elderly eyes. I guess Apple doesn’t see big bucks in us old folks, but everything about the UI has become 100% worse for elderly eyes, which often lose contrast sensitivity along with acuity. Thinner fonts. tinier icons in subtly colors (no contrast). lighter fonts…. I’d pay an old folks fee to be able to have the old UI with new functionality. I honestly don’t know if I will be able to use it efficiently….

    Yes there is a contrast option in Settings, which brings back maybe 5& of the 100 loss….

All my children, nieces, nephews, brothers, and parents ageing in range from 8 to 85 hate the new look and what to go back to the old version.   204. Can’t read the fine gray type in the calendar appointments now. All the developmental money is useless if a huge part of your audience can’t read it. Too bad, being able to use calendar on the devices as well as the computer was really great. Camera is confusing still, but now it stays in photo or video. No more accidental switches.

  206. Very unpleasant to use. The look is just pig ugly – how can anybody pretend that the new Notes app is better than the old? There is too much glare from all white apps. It used to be a pleasure to pick up my iPhone and fiddle with it when I had nothing to do – now I never play with it and my heart sinks whenever I hear a notfication that means that I have to use it.

  208. iOS 7 is an unspeakable disaster. sure there are some improvements. but in general it feels boring, weird, unfriendly and in general looks like a mistake.

    but the worst thing are all the added transitions, animations, jerking, twitching, fading, zooming and other convulsions – i guess they all are part of “simplicity”. they overall make iPhone look and feel like an annoying, irritating and distracting jelly. the user experience turns into constant cringing. iPhone became something i just don’t want to touch and use anymore.

    1. At least for the animations, which I personally like, you can choose to partially reduce motion in the accessibility settings. This mostly just reduces the parallax effect rather than having an effect on zooming. So, now that I’ve spoken I realize it’s about as much help as the increasing contrast option which has hardly any real effect either.

  210. There’s so much crying on here. Most is due to user error (seriously), and the remainder just needs to get used to change. Every major OS update has whiners, and this is no exception. These folks just need to move on and make room for other Apple users.

    It’s not perfect, but neither was iOS 6. JUST BE OPEN TO CHANGE.

      but we can be open to a different change indeed – and that is a change to a different phone (as sad as it may sounds). but the current Apple’s experiment with “simplicity” just gone seriously wrong.

  211. I am totally open to change. Totally love my iPhone (and pad, and Mac) but these 60 year old eyes simply cannot use the phone now with its faded, skinny text (and, no, the bolding, text enlargement and “contrast enhancement” don’t fix it). Aside from the washed-out, Hello Kitty design motif (which I think is really cheap and cheesy-looking, but which I could accept) the problem is that the various “fixes” allowed for the pale, faded text do NOT provide for any adjustment on the crucial phone keypad, alarm clock or calendar. Want to go home to iOS6, otherwise gotta look for a phone with a user-friendly interface – geez, never thought I’d be saying that about an Apple product…..

  213. I have recommended Apple to my mom and grandmother because of how easy it was to read and use. Now I can’t even read the screen well and have to hunt for control features like the teensy circled x’s to exit out of browser windows, and the fonts on the keyboard, labels, etc, are either so small or thin or both, they blur when I am trying to look at them. This is s nightmare. I desperately wish I had not upgraded my iPads, and will NOT be buying any more apple product or recommending them for their intuitiveness until Apple fixes this. I was supposed to buy the new 5S today and instead I am having to go to the store and see if they can put it back the way it was before they broke it. I HATE THAT I CAN BARELY READ THIS AS I AM TYPING IT!

    1. As far as the browser goes, you can actually slide the whole page away to close it instead of aiming for the Xs. But yeah they certainly didn’t make that easily discoverable.

    Every sales rep and Manager that I have are ALL asking for an alternative app, there are none available.
    You have gained enough support from corporations because of your vision to allow yourselves to fall flat on your face because you tried to get to creative and improve an already exceptional calendar .
    Fix it or you will see businesses jump like rats from a sinking ship and fast.

    1. I found an app that will help. It has the look of the iOS 6 calendar. It was meant for making appointment with people in your contacts list and having a quick way to send them reminders of the appointment by text or email… It’s called ContactSched on the app store. As you create appointments in this app, it creates it behind the scene in your iOS 7 calendar. It’s free with ads or $3.99 without..

      The only thing, if you typically use the calendar just to set a reminder of something, you have to choose ‘someone’ for the appointment to be with. So, I just choose myself.

    1. I agree wholeheartedly with the hating it part. I had just purchased a used 64 gig iPad for my sister the week before iOS 7 came out. To my dismay it had iOS 5 on it so I attempted to upgrade it to iOS 6.1.3. Unfortunately, the only upgrade allowed me was to iOS 7. So I took my own iPad and upgraded from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7 to see how different it would be. (I had already purchased a “Learn iPad 2 Visually” book for my sister. Of course the interface for iOS 7 is completely different and IMHO, quite ugly and brash. And, as everyone knows, you can’t go back! She would not have been able to use the book I’d gotten her as the interface is totally different.)
      I went to Target and purchased a new 16 gig iPad 2 for my sister which had 6.1.3. I kept the 64 gig iPad 2 with iOS 5 for myself.
      But of course, I really wanted iOS 6.1.3 and it was no longer possible to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.1.3. So I purchased a 64 gig iPad 4 which had iOS 6.1.3. I love it! It’s so nice to have an iPad just as I want it again!
      Terribly expensive, but worth it! Of course, my original iPad 2 which I unfortunately upgraded to iOS 7 was both wifi and Verizon 3g. The iPad 4 I purchased is just wifi. Not such a big deal unless I go on a trip and need 3g coverage to look at a map while driving in unfamiliar territory which recently happened to me. Luckily, I had my iPad 2 with wifi/3g with me that night, but struggled in the dark with the new iOS 7 interface which was slow to respond and was not as intuitive. NOT FUN!!
      Apple has done a huge disservice to its loyal fans by not allowing us to choose which interface we prefer, and not to allow us to revert back to iOS 6.1.3.
      My iPhone 5 will keep iOS 6.1.4!!!

    Ive now jailbroken my 4s and placed a IOS 6 theme on to remove those nasty app designs that were obviously designed by a bloody 8 yr old.
    As for the grey backgrounds!! plz….The backgrounds a crap.
    DEV TEAM hurry with a tweak to remove the grey back grounds on the folders through the home screens. Dock is gone just folder B ground.
