“If you’ve been wondering why the TV Shows icon on your Apple TV has suddenly vanished today, you are not alone.” Alex Heath reports for Cult of Mac.
“We’ve been getting tips for the past several hours from readers who can’t access the TV Shows category of the iTunes Store on their Apple TVs, with some complaints being as old as this morning,” Heath reports.

MacDailyNews Note: We’ve got some reports, too, with reports that the category has since returned to Apple TV units.
“Apple iTV” pre-announcement glitch?
[Thanks to MacDailyNews readers too numerous to mention individually for the heads up.]
One More Thing?
I hope they don’t go “too” announcement crazy. I only have so much money.
More idiocy from Tim Cook.
Tim Cook should be FIRED.
U should be fired too
Sure, because Tim Cook stayed up all night last night writing code for AppleTVs, and he is the sole reason the TV Shows app disappeared. I think you’re the joke.
Feck offf
I’m a joker.
I’m a smoker.
I’m a midnight toker…
TV shows category is there for me
Apple, bring back rentals! You’ll make a lot of money, from me at least.
I’m confused. I rent HD movies through Apple all the time.
You used to be able to rent TV shows through iTunes…
Come on Tim. No one will think bad of you for actually holding back a new feature announcement, to do a one more thing.
I really miss the one more things.
Thats the first thing I thought when I read about this earlier. Kinda sucks they remove functionality that people already had and don’t think that is right, but would be nice to see a surprise from Apple for once! Been years! All the early rumors ruin everything.
I just looked on my Apple TV. The icon for TV shows was not there, then reappeared within 30sec. Interesting. Who knows.
Hmm
^ oops. Hit publish accidentally.
Hey, I just saw a “Nintendo” channel pop up…
*dreaming*
Ahhh… My previous speculation is coming true. Apple is working WITH cable companies to replace the ubiquitous “cable box” (that forces a bad of copy of the 1990’s Tivo interface on everyone) with a “subsidized” version of Apple TV. On those Apple TV mini-boxes, that are set up to be the cable content user interface, it makes sense that there would be no Apple-supplied “TV Show” category, because that would cause a conflict-of-interest with the cable-supplied TV shows.
Or maybe it was just a glitch… 🙂
It’s coming. I don’t know what or when but it’s coming. And it’s gonna be cool. My guess is Christmas time.
Gene, which Christmas time are you predicting now?
😀
