Apple releases iTunes 11.0.5

Apple has released iTunes 11.0.5 which comes with several new features and improvements, including:

• New MiniPlayer: MiniPlayer now includes a beautiful new view that showcases your album artwork. In addition, a progress bar is now built right into MiniPlayer.

• Improved Songs View: You can now enjoy your album artwork while in Songs view.

• Multi-Disc Albums: Albums with multiple discs now appear as a single album.

This update fixes a problem that may cause iTunes to quit if you switch between wired and wireless syncing and addresses an issue that may require you to log into the iTunes Store repeatedly.

For information on the security content of this update can be found here.

iTunes 11.0.5 is available vis Software Update and also via standalone installer here.

  1. Getting a correction made on one of the articles is easier by sending an email to the webmaster highlighting what was wrong. Just did that, it should be fixed shortly. I don’t think the MDN guys read the comments.

    1. “I don’t think the MDN guys read the comments”
That explains why so many comments are so Ugly. Most tech forums have thoughtful and usefull comments. Here we have to filter through political attacks, obcenities, personal attacks and racism. It is like a bunch of junior highschool boys populate the forum. Never dawned on me MDN would not read the comments. Of course MDN is not above usung the F word and political BS themselves.

      1. A couple of years ago, MDN posted some information about running the site, which included the statement that they tried to keep up with the comments. Which means MDN is well aware of the tenor of the posts and functionally sanctions them. We can guess why. And as KingMel mentions below, the occasional response confirms this.

Like you, I regret the garbage, but I think of MDN as the wild party of Mac sites. If you’re prepared to step over the vomiting drunks at the door, you may meet some interesting people inside. And some of the threads are indeed well-reasoned and interesting.

  2. Yeah, I thought 11.0.4 had been released already, double take time…
But watch it! Clicking on the above link takes you to “support.apple.com” which is a blank page. Typing in apple.com and going through normal channels gets you to
https://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ which is an apple site.
I don’t know what is going on, but do not trust something that gives me a blank page even as I go up through the hierarchy…
    YMMV but don’t somnambulate.

    1. For some reason I was getting blank pages. Went through Add-ons to find if there was an offending member. Disabled and re-enabled with restarts in between each. Now the blank pages are no longer appearing. Oh well, better careful than screwed. Thanks for watching Mr. Wizard. Maybe it was me that was somnambulating, LOL.

    2. OK, perhaps false alarm. Sorry ’bout that. Went through suspect add-ons and tested each by disabling, restarting Firefox. All re-enabled and the problem gone (i.e. no blank pages now). Mystery to me what the cause was. Better to be careful than sorry. Happy Woodward Dream Cruise. : )

  3. Wheres that guy who was always complaining about not being able to open multiple windows? I forget what exactly his beef was. I’d like to hear if, and why, he;s pissed.

    1. I’m pissed at the removal of multiple windows, and so are other people who used that feature extensively.
But what’s it got to do with you? Fine, if you’ve never used it, but why should you give a shit about what other people find useful?
I used it when dragging tracks onto my iPhone or Nano, having a window open for the device so that I could make sure I wasn’t adding any duplicates.
      There, clear enough for you?

      1. Whoa there Bold Eagle!
        Just trying to HELP.

Try opening up your iTunes window as normal. Then go to “WINDOW” on the top menu and open up Mini Player. You will end up with two windows. You can search and drag things from mini player window to your main window.

Still not sure this helps you…but I hope it does.

      2. ……….select all the items you want to ADD to your DEVICE in the mini player search list. Click on the (>) and then select ADD TO. Then select the device you want to add to. You can do this while watching the ON THIS DEVICE list in the main window.

  4. Has anyone noticed that the Buy All button at the top left of your wish list is gone. Makes it a little tricky to try to download 3 pages of music I saved up! Chatted with a very nice woman at Apple Care and she confirmed the button is missing. Slightly embarrassed!

    1. Click the “List Logo” on the left of the search magnifying glass.

This removes the up next list.

Next, hover mouse on the album logo the very left. Two arrows appear, one pointing UP and the other pointing DOWN. Click this logo and the whole mini player compresses to just the PLAY/PAUSE and FWD and REW controls.

  5. Just d/l’ed and installed. I saved a screen shot of the miniplayer before installing. The old one had a progress bar along the bottom. So does the new one. So what is the difference in that regard? I see none.

  6. iTunes kind of blows, but I really want to like it. Cover flow was cool – and they killed it. The new version still has twitched scrolling, and the whole iOS sync stack is bloating the hell out of it. WTF. Why can’t Apple just make it good?
