Apple signs Sony Music for iRadio, all three major labels now on board

“Sony Music has signed on to Apple’s forthcoming iRadio service, according to a person familiar with negotiations between the two companies,” Peter Kafka reports for AllThingsD.

“The deal means that Apple now has agreements with all three major music labels,” Kafka reports. “Apple had been pushing music executives to come aboard in advance of its annual developer conference next week, so you should expect to hear an official announcement Monday.”

Kafka reports, “Apple isn’t expected to actually launch iRadio at its WWDC event. Instead, it’s expected to tell developers about the forthcoming service.”

  1. I have been waiting for this for a couple of years now from Apple. I use iHeart, Pandora and slacker constantly.

But after reading the rumors, I am not that excited this new service.

I hope the service Apple provides is better then what the rumors are projecting.

    1. I’d at least give Apple a chance to present iRadio. It doesn’t sound like something that I would be that interested in but that’s just me. Hopefully it will do well for Apple. I do use iHeart radio a lot. I’d just as soon use something from Apple.

      1. Been a Mac user since the Classic II.

Supported them through the dark years for Apple.

Will always give them a chance and yes I do know what rumor is. But I want something better then not a catch up to the other services.

        1. I’ve been a user since the beginning. Make a living with Mac Pros and MBP’s. Own everything that Apple makes. I didn’t ask you if you know what a rumor is. I too want something better then a catch-up service. Apple already does poorly in almost all of its services areas. And there is no excuse for their poor performance in those areas. But I have faith that with all that money and resources they can eventually excel in services just as they do in hardware and software. If not, they will fail. Because the future is not in hardware or software. It’s in services and Apple had better get the lead out of their ass and get going.

        2. What industry and pro affiliation do you work for or are you ‘self emlployed’?

We get excellent Apple business development support from Apple teams at Bristol Myers Squibb.

  2. In 2 or 3 years, Apple will be accused of being the ringleader for a price-fixing scheme regarding this service. The “proof” will be that all the labels got the same terms.

  3. this is good because spotify lastFM pandora and other music discovery services don’t provide a viable revenue stream for independent artists and labels. I hope that iRadio can do better for independent artists.

  4. For the times I can’t find anything interesting on Sirius XM I go with Songza. It’ll be interesting to see what iRadio has to offer that the others don’t. Getting me to switch from Sirius would take quite a bit but it could be done. I’ll be looking forward to the details.
