BlackBerry says mystery buyer ordered a million Z10 phones

“Shares of BlackBerry rose more than eight percent on Wednesday after the company announced it has sold one million of its new smartphones to a mystery buyer,” The Canadian Press reports.

“The Waterloo, Ont.-based company said an “established partner” made the purchase, though a spokeswoman for the company said confidentiality reasons prevent it from revealing the identity,” CP reports. “The former Research In Motion said shipments of the phones will start immediately.”

MacDailyNews Take: Dr. EvilOne miiillliiiooon Z10s. Muahahahaha!

Mystery solved: It’s Dr. Evil (a Canadian, no less).

One million sounds like a lot. It isn’t. For example, Apple sold 47.8 million iPhones in their last reported 90-day quarter. That’s over one million iPhone sold every 48 hours. And, don’t forget, Apple is currently oh-so-doomed, so what’s that make BlackBerry?

That’s right: Dead Company Walking – regardless of publicity stunts and “mystery buyers” and any other assorted bullshit they’ll try to pull before they finally go tits up.

  1. In order to maintain his/her anonymity, the mystery buyer has asked the phones be delivered in plain brown packaging behind the Super Value Mart (by the dumpsters) Thursday at midnight.

        1. Grow up please.
ALL guberments suck. They lie, cheat, rape and pillage at will, dump on whatever slice of the populous they hate…
…and then go smile on tv.
And you all thought Monty Python was fiction?

  2. What does that say about your product when your largest customer to date is too embarrassed to admit purchasing it?

But in all seriousness, how may more years is Macdailynews going to keep the DCW mantra going before they just give it up? Has it been going on for about 5 or 6 years now and Bberry is definitely not dead or even appear to be dying. so it just gets sort of old to keep hearing that refrain.

  3. Who is that mystery buyer? Why it is BlackBerry… Buying it’w own product to stock it’s BlackBerry branded stores TBA at a later date! Word has it that it looks like Google’s attempt at Microsoft’s attempt at being Apple like…

  4. Why would you want Blackberryto fail?If you don’t use the product, it’s irrelevant to you.

If you do use the product, you’ll want the best user experience the device can offer.

Blackberry and Apple are not tied to each other’s performance.

  5. Hey hey now lets give credit where credit is due..bravo BlackBerry that is how you manipulate the stock. Apple could learn a lesson or two from this…umm I think I’ll order 10 million iPhones, my money is good for it 🙂

  6. I can’t think of any single company that has well over 300 million to blow on a single purchase of phones alone. There must be a plan to resell them. 10 to 1 they’re going to an “established customer” (IE: a small middle eastern country?) where the tyrants in power can resell them, and have historically used BBs because they love the fact that BBs can be completely monitored and controlled. If you sold a boatload of Z10s to Iran or N.Korea, would you want to tell anyone?

  7. Agent P, Doofenschmirtz has ordered one million Blackberries. We suspect that he’s trying to take the entire Tri-State area back to the 90’s. Get out there and stop him!
