“Shares of BlackBerry rose more than eight percent on Wednesday after the company announced it has sold one million of its new smartphones to a mystery buyer,” The Canadian Press reports.
“The Waterloo, Ont.-based company said an “established partner” made the purchase, though a spokeswoman for the company said confidentiality reasons prevent it from revealing the identity,” CP reports. “The former Research In Motion said shipments of the phones will start immediately.”

MacDailyNews Take: One miiillliiiooon Z10s. Muahahahaha!
Mystery solved: It’s Dr. Evil (a Canadian, no less).
One million sounds like a lot. It isn’t. For example, Apple sold 47.8 million iPhones in their last reported 90-day quarter. That’s over one million iPhone sold every 48 hours. And, don’t forget, Apple is currently oh-so-doomed, so what’s that make BlackBerry?
That’s right: Dead Company Walking – regardless of publicity stunts and “mystery buyers” and any other assorted bullshit they’ll try to pull before they finally go tits up.
LOL @ tits up .. I’ve always used “tits up and taking on water”
In the military, that’s referred to as “Tango Uniform”. Also a way to say the same thing in polite company.
Nepolitano!
That’s just weird. Look, I hope the new BlackBerry is a cool device. We need something else good out there that’s not from shifty Samsung. But a million units to a secret buyer is just weird and smells like shenanigans.
shenanigans, high jinks and tomfoolery
In order to maintain his/her anonymity, the mystery buyer has asked the phones be delivered in plain brown packaging behind the Super Value Mart (by the dumpsters) Thursday at midnight.
A buyer that is secret? Did this company lose a lawsuit against Blackberry and they “must” buy the Z10?
Good luck billing them.
It’s, it’s, it’s….Obama…the new BB Obamaphone….
1 million new orders to give away to welfare queens in return for previously voting the ‘right way’ in 2012.
Sounds about right – Dead Company Walking’s phones will probably go to the “dead” voters that voted.
No dead voters voted. If you believe that that is true, find some shred pot evidence and file a complaint
Otherwise, you’re just pissing in the wind.
I don’t know about dead voters, but we do know of at least one living voter in OH who voted six times. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/feb/19/ohio-poll-worker-who-admits-voting-twice-obama-may/
I will amend my comment with one that I can back up:

Found one: Dead people voted:

Grow up please.
ALL guberments suck. They lie, cheat, rape and pillage at will, dump on whatever slice of the populous they hate…
…and then go smile on tv.
And you all thought Monty Python was fiction?
Must be the Canadian government trying to save the nation’s face
Naw. The Canadian government has too much style for Blackberries. Have you seen the Mounties?
Case in point…
What does that say about your product when your largest customer to date is too embarrassed to admit purchasing it?
But in all seriousness, how may more years is Macdailynews going to keep the DCW mantra going before they just give it up? Has it been going on for about 5 or 6 years now and Bberry is definitely not dead or even appear to be dying. so it just gets sort of old to keep hearing that refrain.
Ofttimes, the old familiar songs are the best-loved.
You still think the artist formally known as RIM still has a future? Wow!
it’s the order for the Canadian telco Rogers Communications.
Bizarre.
It is an Indonesian company buying for the Indonesia government. They like BB’s there.
Who is that mystery buyer? Why it is BlackBerry… Buying it’w own product to stock it’s BlackBerry branded stores TBA at a later date! Word has it that it looks like Google’s attempt at Microsoft’s attempt at being Apple like…
It could very well be the US Dept. of Energy. They have used Blackberries for years. They also buy lots of computers with MS Win7 and then reimage them with XP (as of 2010).
Why would you want Blackberryto fail?If you don’t use the product, it’s irrelevant to you.
If you do use the product, you’ll want the best user experience the device can offer.
Blackberry and Apple are not tied to each other’s performance.
Hey hey now lets give credit where credit is due..bravo BlackBerry that is how you manipulate the stock. Apple could learn a lesson or two from this…umm I think I’ll order 10 million iPhones, my money is good for it 🙂
Too bad they don’t have a shipping address or name to invoice.
I know! I know! It must be Steve Jobs’s soul, like when he prank called Starbucks ordering 4000 lattes!!!
I can’t think of any single company that has well over 300 million to blow on a single purchase of phones alone. There must be a plan to resell them. 10 to 1 they’re going to an “established customer” (IE: a small middle eastern country?) where the tyrants in power can resell them, and have historically used BBs because they love the fact that BBs can be completely monitored and controlled. If you sold a boatload of Z10s to Iran or N.Korea, would you want to tell anyone?
Buy one, get one million free!
There’s a new twist. 😉
Everyone knows that for Apple to be successful, BlackBerry must die.
Well done BlackBerry you got Apple envy!
Apple is envy…..
“Son, did you hack my paypal account?”
“Yes, daddy, I bought you a birthday present.”
Agent P, Doofenschmirtz has ordered one million Blackberries. We suspect that he’s trying to take the entire Tri-State area back to the 90’s. Get out there and stop him!
