New images purport to show the metal shell of Apple’s rumored “iPad mini,” a 7- or 7.85-inch, depending on who you believe, version of the company’s revolutionary iPad
“Some images — claiming to be legit parts of 7-inch iPad — popped up on SINA Weibo, the largest social media site in China,” Star Chang reports for M.I.C Gadget.
“It’s an new account just activated two days ago by an oversea Chinese user [who] live[s] in the U.S.,” hang reports. “There’s no other activity on the account to back up the source.”
Chang reports, So far the new mini iPad doesn’t come with rear camera…”

Dont be ridiculous!
whats rediculous is your clear lack of imagination. A great many people find the iPad much too big for everyday use, but an iPhone is often too small for many things, like reading books, viewing photos, etc.
Show me the data that indicates that the market for 7″ tablets is significant.
I don’t think there is any
… and that is generally true of every market that Apple has entered and dominated with great success. We should think Apple not Microsoft here, or should do since when did Jobs only enter a market that stats proved was a successful one? I for one would love to have a 7inch iPad, my present one never leaves the house a smaller one would do so constantly.
Where was the data that indicated that the market for a 9.7″ tablet was significant *before* Apple designed and marketed the iPad. Your logic is lacking.
Quite a few people jumped at the Kindle Fire when it was released. I suspect that its subsequent lack of success was due mostly to the fact that it was a Kindle and not the smaller and less expensive iPad that people were seeking. The larger Galaxy Tab 10.1N isn’t selling very well, either. I guess that there is no market for 10.1″ tablets…
I would love to have a 7 inch iPad right now. Currently I have an iPad 2 and it is a little big and clumsy to hold and carry around all the time. I first heard rumors from a coworker at Dish about it and I told my girlfriend as well, she would love to have the mini because her hands are just so small. We normally use our iPads to watch live TV and recording from our DVR, since it’s hooked up to a Sling Adapter, on the Dish Remote Access app, and it would be much easier for her to hold a 7 inch iPad in front of her for a long period of time. I can’t wait to see what Apple actually has to say about this!
I’d buy a smaller iPad in a heartbeat – but I hope they include a really awesome camera (front and rear) – at least one on par with the iPhone 4S camera. 😛
As a business owner, this would be my go to gadget for on the document viewing. The iphone is too small to view spreadsheets and plans and such, and the ipad too large to lug around. I think this thing is going to sell well regardless. Student and business people alike are going to flock to it.
As an avid Mac user and owner of many things Apple, I must complain… lack of a rear-facing camera (to drive sales of higher priced iPads by reducing functionality) is complete rubbish! Sorry buy I expect much more…
Umm. People. I was in Guangzhou 3 weeks ago and I SAW with my own 2 eyes and video camera THIS exact same iPad. It was at the markets in Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street 上下九步行街
Level 3 I think. It is NOT a genuine apple product. It was a Chinese piece of Sh@* that had a screen resolution close to 320×240 and ran the same software as the fake iPhone 4 next to it. Slow and clunky it was probably java. I was tempted to buy it but thought why waste $35 Australian dollars on it.
Thank you Little Phil!
Other knock-offs like this one are probably the source of most rumored ‘prototypes’ of upcoming iProducts.
The iPad mini is indeed real and about to be unveiled any day now, but no way in HELL would Apple release it without a camera.
If not, next refresh cycle.
That said, totally agree.
No, there is no “if not.” An iPad mini today sans camera would be totally unacceptable. They’ve got a camera in the iPod nano for christ’s sake, how could they not be able to fit one in the iPad mini?
As long they offer one with a cellular radio..
For very many of us, the iPad mini without a camera would be “totally unacceptable”, “epic fail”, “dealbraker”, “no-go”, “rediculous [sic]” (to quote a few comments here).
However, if Apple does release such a device, they will definitely sell millions of it, and the satisfaction rates will be, as usual, through the roof. And the next generation will gain the back camera as well…
We have seen this Apple story many times, and it always plays out the same way.
No one doubts they’d still sell tens of millions. And camera or no camera, I’d be one of the first to order it. But it would still be an epic fail. The iPod touch will have dual cameras and the iPad mini won’t? It doesn’t even make any sense.
You, and many others here have just described a Blackberry Playbook.
I have never seen so much ado about nothing. It’s a rumor. It doesn’t exist. The rumor perpetrators are laughing. Sharks are hoping further ignorant companies take the bait and join in. Apple won’t be one of them.
Loss Leader Alert.
I am really excited by the idea of an iPad Mini, as it will be more affordable and easier to lug around when I am at Uni.
However if the rumours of no camera are true then this would mean no QR code reader. Which I think is a shame, my uni are moving to having e-books accessible via QR codes and the iPad Mini wouldn’t be able to do this.
Also without a front camera would mean no facetime, again a shame!
I would however stick to using iPhone for taking pictures I think!
