Apple to provide an adapter for new micro Dock connector, sources say

“While this seems like this should go without saying, because of all the questions we’ve been getting, and posts we’ve been seeing, iMore reached out to the original sources that gave us the new Dock connector story way back in February just to make doubly sure — and yes, there will be an adapter for the iPhone 5’s smaller Dock connector that will let it work with many of the accessories designed for the old 30-pin Dock connector,” Rene Ritchie reports for iMore.

“We haven’t heard if one will be included in the box along with the iPhone 5, or will only be sold separately,” Ritchie reports, “but either way, come October, you’ll be able to get a new-to-old Dock adapter from Apple.”

    1. Exactly.

Plus to reiterate a past post:

This is for a new iPhone.

Is Apple going to suddenly make all the older iPhone dock connectors self destruct?
Is Apple going to make you buy a new iPhone?

IF you do nothing, everything continues to work.

      Bunch of cry babies.

  1. Hurrah… the infamous Apple arrogance has relented to common sense service for its huge customer base who would otherwise be forced to spend double the money on connectors, new peripherals, and other gadgets for the privilege of buying the newest magical phone.

    1. I’ll bet you believe in the Tooth Fairy too; you must if you believe that crap.
      Apple arrogance? Really? Example?
You can certainly believe that there will be DOZENS of cheap after-market adaptors on the market, and Griffin, Belkin, and god-knows how many others will be supplying them, same as dock/USB cables; I’ve got eight or nine but only two phones and two iPods, so I’ve no idea where the others came from.
Adaptors will be the same, proliferating like mushrooms.

    2. Pete,
Really? All manufacturers, including apple change their products from time to time. Apple has changed form factors in the iPod/iPhone products several times which has rendered many third party & apple products useless unless you had an adapter. Try sticking an iPhone on the Apple Hi-Fi without an adapter. Try using an iPhone 3g case on an iPhone 4. Try use a mophie battery case on a model its not specifically designed for.
As long as adapters are available to convert both ways for at least a few years, people will be fine. My old iPhone will work in my new car or my new iPhone will work in my old car. It might cost me $20 but really, that’s better than having to buy a new iPhone/Car.

    3. Pete your a idiot, the new iPhone hasn’t even been released and your yelling victory over nothing, idiots that haven’t a clue what Apple is going to do says they relented.

How in hell do you know if Apple didn’t plan on having an adapter anyway in the box, your just a asshole.

And of you don’t want the best then stick with windows Phone or Android, the technology is stale and sucks anyway just for people like you, it’s time to move on, the dock connector is old. The new connector will allow more options and features in a smaller package while also allowing a smaller body structure for the iPhone.

The old dock connector is nearly a decade old, technology changes, this isn’t Microsoft.

      Move on hater.

  2. why switch the connector? Just so Apple can switch the location of the audio input jack on the iPhone?!? Think of all the adverse effects this will have on equipment and peripherals people already own. From iPod Touch, iPod, iPads, speakers, chargers—many will end up in a landfill because sometimes adapters are just a crummy solution. Keep the 30 pin connector, “don’t fix it if it ain’t broke”.

    1. And another Troll.

Okay Troll the 30 Pin Dock connector is nearly 10 years old, it’s called innovation and if you don’t like it buy something else.

As reported the new connector will allow more features with a smaller footprint.

You ASSUME allot “m f” without any proof, and I just gave you a few reasons out of many.

We aren’t dealing with Microsoft here.

  3. Apple in the Jobs era was ruthless about updating technology, getting rid of the old and replacing it with the better. They have never shown even the slightest inkling of remorse.

however, you have to be a “fucking dickless asshole” (a Jobs quote) to have ever thought that Apple would not have an adaptor for the new micro dock connector. Seriously, how anyone could be so fucking stupid is beyond me. Then upping the ante of this horseshit idea and screaming about planned obsolescence to make a profit?!?! Jesus fucking Christ that is just like taking out a national ad campaign saying that you believe e earth is flat.

Motherfuckers make my head hurt with their stupidity,
