Smartphone users say Apple iPhone worth $313 to them, BlackBerry and Android worth about $220

“Investment firm Piper Jaffray recently polled more than 400 consumers from around the U.S. and Asia in its annual cell phone survey,” Neil Hughes reports for AppleInsider. “The surveys were conducted in larger cities, which resulted in more than half of users being iPhone owners.”

“Analyst Gene Munster and team asked participants to come up with a dollar value for how much their current phone is worth to them,” Hughes reports. “The survey found that among the 208 current iPhone users, the average value was $313, which is over $100 more than the subsidized price of the 16-gigabyte iPhone 4S.”

Hughes reports, “In comparison, users of Android handsets said their current smartphone was worth $220 on average, while BlackBerry smartphone owners pegged the value of their device at $219.”

MacDailyNews Take: The reason that those who’ve settled for BlackBerry and Android even value their devices that much is because they don’t know what they’re missing.

Ignorance is bliss, even if it is 30% less blissful than that of the average iPhone user.

To those stuck with non-iPhones: You know you wanted an iPhone. Next time, don’t settle for antiquated tech or a pale imitation. Nothing’s as good as the real thing.

  1. What’s hilarious to me are those desperate Fragdroid choice justifications with those poor devils fooling themselves they made the right choice for all the right reasons. Just shut up and use crap if you like but don’t bug me about it or fake anything resembling an air of superiority when the only thing in the air there roughly smells like an overused cow pasture. iPhone is the only choice for anyone with half a brain or more.

    1. Android is for Stockholm Syndrome sufferers who do not know the difference between quality and “feature checklist”, the difference between cheap and value, the difference between original innovative design, and bargain bin knockoff. They couldn’t discern the difference between plastic and metal + glass.

To them a cubic zirconia is just a cheaper diamond.

To them an Elvis Impersonator is the same as Elvis.

To them a rubber duck is a swan.

Let them enjoy their junk phones, the iPhone will continue to dominate in profits, and I suspect it will slowly but surely tear down Android in developed markets as it becomes more widely available and as cheaper models become accessible in all markets. (for example the “free” 3GS is only on ATT in the US).

    1. I agree that it is a pretty stupid idea for a survey, but it does give some insight into how much different user bases value their devices, which is still pretty interesting.

  2. I am an owner and user of an Android phone. why? Because my carrier doesn’t offer it. Why? because I count call reception quality to be my most important factor in carriers. My carrier has terrific call quality. so, I’m forced to use Android for now. It’s no iOS. But it suffices when I don’t dive too deeply into the shitty Apps. Voice recognition, however, is superb.
